House was very spacious. Room were nice sized and it was nice to have bed rooms on different floors where you cold separated kids from adults. View was awesome.

We had four families together for the Thanksgiving holiday and we loved every bit of our stay at the lake house. We were a bit surprised at how steep the driveway was from the road however we were able to navigate that safely and some of us just left vehicles up at the top of the hill and walked down. With eight adults and 7 teenagers, we had plenty of room to spread out, plenty of bedding, and hang out area for everyone. The views are great and the hot tub was a plus for chilly nights. There was plenty of kitchen items for our Thanksgiving meal.The host was responsive and easy to communicate with. We would love to return.

My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with our entire family.

The property was phenomenal. The only inconvenience we had was the walk down to the lake and the walk back up to the house. We are both seniors over 75 so whenever we went down or up one of our 3 sons or 2 grandsons had to walk with us in case we lost our balance. That was a minor inconvenience only and it did not prevent us from doing anything. It was as great a time as our family had on any of our trips and the host was as kind and informative as he could be.

Great week at Norris Lake!

This was our second year staying at Blue Grotto with a group of 19 ranging in age from 3-72. The property is set up perfectly for multiple families with the 4 master bedrooms. The owners are very committed to providing a high quality house and rental experience. We were pleasantly surprised to see all of the upgrades they made since last year including new carpet, window treatments and sleeper sofas. There are a lot of small details throughout the property that make it a great fit - a standalone ice maker, two fridges, two dishwashers, tons of trash cans, frequent trash pickup, and two washers and dryers to name a few. The house has a great layout for a large group and the multiple covered patios are ideal. The dock is perfect and the location of the house in a peaceful cove with close proximity to Shanghai marina was perfect. We spent lots of time tubing, wake boarding and floating at the end of the dock. Like most houses at Norris, the walk down to the lake is a workout but this property has done as good as they can to make this work well between the steps and sloped walkway. Highly recommend this property!

Lovely house! Great for gathering. Very steep driveway and Hottub was green

Overall the blue grotto was an amazing place for our family to gather! Everyone enjoyed the house, age 6 months to 70 years old.- The kitchen is a workhorse! Feeding our large family with multiple cooks round the clock was made easy by this well equipped kitchen. We especially loved the two dishwashers, ice machine, - As most reviews stated - the driveway is VERY steep. I would not feel comfortable driving this with rain or snow- The Hottub was green and had floating algae when we arrived. Property manager was very responsive, came over to shock the hot tub and left an additional shock. Ultimately it should have been drained and cleaned IMO. Even after the shock the water was green and cloudy and piece of algae floating around

Family vacation

The house was beautiful. Lots of room for all 20 of us. The best house we’ve stayed in at Norris Lake. This was our fourth time. Views from deck were gorgeous. We spent most of our time on deck eating or playing games when we weren’t enjoying the water. s. Thought we were getting away from all the steps and would enjoy yard games but too steep. The driveway is also very steep and really can have only 5 cars as stated. As always a beautiful week with my family. Thank you to owners!!

Can’t wait to come back next year!

This property is well designed for multiple families to stay together. Our group of 19 people loved that each couple had their own master suite and the kids loved having a separate boy and girl bunk room. Additional details like two dishwashers, two washer/ dryer stations, a large open basement hangout space with ping pong, a large dock, tons of bathrooms and an ice maker also ensured the house worked well for our large group. We also loved the new outside patio furniture and the fact that the whole group could eat meals outside together. The layout of the house was perfect for our group. We also loved the location on the lake - great views, easy marina access (rented a boat from Shanghai) and the no wake zone allowed for lots of swimming and floating just off the dock. We look forward to coming back next year!

Great Week at the Lake

We had a lovely week at Blue Grotto! We had 3 families, all with kids, so the extra space and 6 bedrooms were great. The kids loved that there was a boys and girls bunk room in the loft for them to have their own space. The kitchen was beautiful - brand new, and had all the supplies we could have needed. The outdoor space was awesome as well. The upper deck now has a seating area (not shown in the pictures), which was super comfortable. The adults spent most nights out there after kids were asleep. The proximity to Shanghai marina couldn't have been better and the cove was perfect for swimming. The steep driveway looked intimidating at first, but was completely manageable. We would absolutely stay here again upon a return trip to Norris Lake!

Amazing vacation at beautiful lakehouse

House is perfect for large group. We had 4 couples and lots of children. Perfect accommodations for everyone. Kitchen is well stocked. We cooked every meal for a week there and were never short on any kitchen need. Dock is perfect for hanging out. Great vacation

Beautiful view but far away

This property had amazing beautiful views. The house was beautiful and had what we needed to enjoy our stay there. It was a bit too remote for us though. The drive to get to all of our excursions was long. The walk down to the lake was steeper than we originally anticipated and there were people in our party that could not do it. Maybe a railing on the steps down to the dock would be helpful.

End of Summer Vacation

Took my family here for our end of the summer vacation and I must say this house is truly amazing. We normally stay at Lakeside Estates but decided to try this location and so glad we did. Amazing views of the lake to begin with. The house is well put together. The 4 Master Bedrooms were a great Idea and accommodated my 3 kids and their Spouses. Kitchen is very well put together, with a great cabinet setup, awesome display of cooking Utilites, 2 Dishwashers, beautiful island and a very large table for our whole party to sit. The Basement was nice to have a ping pong table and the Nintendo Wii was fun for the family (please add a pool table lol). Awesome to have an ice machine, wet bar with full fridge and washer and dryer worked great. Beautiful Deck both top and bottom. Furniture could use and update and it would be nice to have a flat tabletop rather that the ones with holes for playing dice games, card games, etc..... but that is a small, preferred opinion. Hot tub and deck swing were so nice to have. It would be nice to have a Small Smoker and a Blackstone. Fire pit is perfect and the walk down to the dock is very well put together with concrete walkway and concrete stairs. Dock is awesome with 2 boat bays, 2 jet ski bays, a place to lay out and a high dive. The neighborhood is amazing, and we took long walks every morning. Location is right by Shanghai and very close to Stardust Marina so very easy Marina options. Amazing 5 Star and I will definitely be back next year.

Comments on Blue Grotto

We had our extended family at Blue Grotto for a week. It was a wonderful vacation. The house was roomy, clean, and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed and more, very well equipped. The downstairs family room was great, our young ones and teens loved it. The best part of Blue Grotto was the view of the lake and the easy access. We rented two boats and two jet skis with ample dockage. Great swim platform, kids loved the high diving platform! Norris Lake is amazing! Clean water which was the right temp for swimming, and a great boating lake. The house was perfect for our needs, we will be going back! My suggestions for improvement is a very short list. The bedsheets need to be replaced. A few things needed to be cleaned but not much at all.. Thank you for a great place for our family vacation!

Great property

This property is in a wonderful location and has all of the amenities you could ever need. The owners were great to communicate with. We had a toilet handle break and someone was out there the next day to repair it. Everyone on our trip loved the house and we plan on booking agin for next year.

We had such a wonderful stay at Blue Grotto! We loved having four master bedrooms with four king beds. The new kitchen was amazing! It has two dishwashers everything needed to cook large meals for a big group. The lake was beautiful and the views were amazing. We would definitely come back to this house.

Large group getaway

The home floor plan was perfect for several families to share. 4 identical masters were very helpful and the kids loved the 2 bunk rooms. There was additional loft space that was helpful for teens that wanted to spread out a bit more. The owners were very responsive to any questions or assistance we needed and answered our phone calls immediately. The dock is very nice and has lots of cleats to tie up equipment and tubes. It’s close to some great marinas for food and fueling boats. We had 3 generations with 5 families for a sibling/cousin getaway and everyone enjoyed their time. The hill down to the dock was tough for the older generation but we were able to drive to the closest marina for grandma to more easily get to the boat.

Room for multi-families

The Blue Grotto is very roomy, has a gorgeous kitchen with two dishwashers and a huge island. Appliances are all updated. There’s plenty of room for everyone to sit at the gigantic table and counter. What we really loved were the four master bedrooms with attached bathrooms. In the upstairs, there are two bedrooms perfect for families with little or big kids. At night we played lots of ping-pong games in the lower level family room. The two decks provided spaces for everyone to spread out while outside. We ate many of our meals outside on the two patio sets. The grill was large enough to accommodate cooking chicken for 17 people. At night we would take turns sitting in the hot tub. The dock provided enough room for a 25 foot pontoon boat, a 23 foot speedboat, and a fishing boat. The dock had a diving platform which entertained children and adults for hours at a time. Norris lake was perfect for wakeboarding, skiing, and tubing. Use Google maps to track location. The blue grotto is in a cove so the children could swim there safely. Launched our boats at the Sugar Hollow Marina, which was only a 10 minute boat ride away. They do have music on the weekends. Food was OK. The jumping bridge was fun. Shanghai marina has cute shop for shirts and 2 sets of cornhole games outside -yummy ice cream.When trailering boats to the marina, the road is narrow so go slow. If you enjoy hiking, go to the little Egypt hiking trail in Caryville. Beautiful waterfalls and view from the top. Wow!

Enjoyed our stay

The kitchen has been recently remodeled which was a nice surprise. The old kitchen was presented in the photos/listing. We did a lot of cooking and the large island is nice. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the lake views. Its quite a ways down to the dock/lake but manageable. Fairly steep and you’ll get a good workout each time you come back up. There are stairs and concrete walkway that go along the entire way so it’s not too bad. About normal for Norris lakefront properties. The water is nice and clean. We enjoyed fishing, swimming, and paddle boarding. Caught a couple small bass and a catfish off the dock. Overall would definitely come back. Only a couple minor critiques are to change out the shower curtain liners, sharpen the knives, and perhaps consider new cushions for the outdoor furniture. Thanks!

Family time

The house was great, 2 bedrooms on each floor was wonderful for our family, aunt, cousins,siblings! The updated kitchen is beautiful, the layout works well for a large group, 2 dishwashers is brillant!

We have been visiting Lake Norris with our family, friends and kids for years. We rented lake front homes with multiple families in various Norris Lake locations to experience first hand what family, friends and kids would look for in an ideal vacation home, before purchasing beautiful Blue Grotto. This home was designed specifically for multiple families to gather, and we love it, and love sharing it with other families making memories together too! We are from Cincinnati, OH and have lived there for over 25 years. Please read the reviews from various guests; they speak for themselves.

Lake Norris has about 800 miles of shoreline while a few areas are zoned for residential development and marinas, most of the lake is uninhabited and you have miles of water shoreline with coves that you can enjoy. While picking the location for our home, we had 3 criteria:
❤ Safety: Where our kids and families can enjoy the lake, swim around safely near the deck and dive from our private dock.
❤ Family: Our home is situated in a cove away from the traffic but have a view of the lake from all bedrooms. There is no concept of a master bedroom, we have 4 identical bedrooms with attached bath with beautiful view of the lake and individual walk out to the deck. The other 2 bedrooms in the upper floor was designed for families with kids, where they cannot walk out to the deck by themselves and be safe with parents.
❤ Location: Last but not the least, should be quickly accessible to free waterway but also close to marinas where families can go grab a bite and get their boats/jet skis refilled.

We feel that we have accomplished all these criteria in choosing a location and designing our home and dock.
