NOT AS EXPECTED: No privacy and pictures are misleading
We were disappointed to find that the pictures and the video on the website do not represent the actual rental: look carefully and you will see repeat furniture which has been moved room to room for the pictures between the different villas. The video depicts the red kitchen as opening onto the pool but the pool is on a completely different part of the property. The terrace, which has the only unimpeded view of the ocean (the pool unfortunately looks directly onto the roof of a separate cottage) - did not have the lounging furniture that was shown on the website. Offering no apologies, we were told ‘we replace the furniture season by season’. The problem is; they didn’t replace it, they just moved it to the villa below. When we expressed our disappointment, they told us ‘Homeaway posts the pictures we send in, we don’t have control over which ones they use’. Then they told us: ‘most people do not want to sit on the terrace’ and ‘we can move the chairs from the garden to the terrace’ and then ‘we can move the living room couch outside’ – none of which solved the issue because it just created another empty space. The villa is not designed for privacy: the only terrace and two of the bedrooms face directly on top of the unit below and you can hear everything from the villa below: all the pool activity, every conversation and all the music. They can also hear us so it doesn’t matter which villa you rent, neither provide privacy. The property is right on the main road which has a constant stream of traffic and also sits below a very busy primary flight path, with unremitting noisy airplane arrivals and departures starting early morning and going through the evening. The Villa is very small – all three small bedrooms are right next to each other, bathrooms are tiny and none ensuite. The separate ‘media room’ is only usable at night as it consists of a pull down screen and projector, which means you cannot see anything when it is light outside. You need to remember to turn on the heater to take a shower at least 20 minutes before you are ready and to shut it off or, as the owner told us, ‘it could explode’. There is no dryer – not a deal breaker to hang dry things but yet another example of what they claim on the website and does not exist. The WiFi does not work at the pool (something we asked specifically in advance and were assured it did). We would urge the owner to post accurate pictures so no other family is met with these unpleasant surprises.
