We stayed at this flat during the spring of 2019. The owners were great and very communicative. The apartment is located on what would be considered the 2nd floor if you’re American (the 1st floor to Europeans), so don’t let that confuse you when you read the entry instructions. Located on the quieter and very charming north side of the old town. Looking out the window you can see the beautiful Sorgue River flowing through, ducklings, local pétanque games, and quieter town life. The apartment was very clean with attractive decor and most amenities including toasty heaters. Hot shower (and a full curtain, a welcome rarity in France for our stays). Free public parking is a minute away for those with a car!
Unfortunately there were a few inconveniences that affected the comfort of our stay: 1) We found the bed to be terribly uncomfortable. After the first lousy night we inspected the mattress to find that it was squashed flat and thin. We could feel the hard wood slats below. The bad nights’ sleep really affected our mood. 2) The kitchen sink will not drain, EVER. Whoever installed the sink did not make it level so there will always be a few centimeters of water (and food scraps) sitting in the sink. Completely unsanitary and unappealing, as we love to cook. Too bad since the kitchen was well equipped and ready otherwise.
Smaller quirks to note—the glass sliding door between the bathroom is a hazard as it continually slides part-way closed when you open it, making it extremely easy to bump into when passing in and out, especially in the dark. For privacy lovers, note the same door doesn’t actually close all the way either. With the close quarters, you and your partner will get to share each other’s bathroom time whether you want to or not.
And maybe we just are too dumb to figure this out but the washer/dryer combo machine didn’t actually dry our clothes. All the settings were written in French. Some English instructions in the otherwise excellent welcome booklet would have been helpful. We figured out how to wash but the “dry” setting seemed to just steam our clothes with extreme heat for hours and hours which didn’t seem good for them. At least there was a very good clothes rack provided so we just used that.
All in all, we loved L’isle-Sur-La-Sorgue and appreciated the generous hospitality of the owners. With a few modifications, mainly the bed, this apartment could have gotten a much higher rating.
