This property had everything we needed. The location was absolutly perfect.We had such a wonderful stay and both the hosts and Helen were very helpful and responsive. I would highly recommend, the walk to the beach Speightstown and the buses was super easy and quick.Thank you for making our stay so memorable!

We had a wonderful stay at Emcee - spacious, clean and with everything we needed! Kate & Andrew were really helpful providing tips before we arrived and Helen provided a smooth & friendly check in service. The garden & pool are lovely for mornings, late afternoons & evenings, as was the terrace. The fans and air con kept us cool in the property. Well equipped kitchen including plastic plates, bowls & cups (handy for 2 young kids). The neighbourhood is quiet and it’s just a short walk to the nearest beach. Speightstown itself is also great - lots of food options, great beaches. Overall, a really great choice!

What a wonderful holiday! Our hosts were so helpful, friendly and provided lots of very useful information to make our holiday exactly what we were hoping for. Bajan people are just the best! The nicest people you would wish to meet. They can't do enough for you. So helpful, polite and everyone talks to you. The villa is lovely and very well located. Close to the beaches, amenities and restaurants yet in a peaceful road. Everything has been amazing and we're so sad to leave.

Beautiful house, great location

As before, we found the process, communication and the house to be excellent. It has all you need and more for a wonderful stay. Quiet area, but very close to Speightstown. Local transport brilliant. Thank you for another relaxing break in your lovely house. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful Emcee

We had an enjoyable time at EmceePlunge pool was fabulous. House spacious and comfortable. Owners Rough Guide was very helpful. We would stay at Emcee againSpeightstown was great for the beach, bars and restaurants. Heywoods beach is a beautiful long beach. Unfortunately the beachside demolition works to build a new Sandals resort can be rather noisy.

Alisha’s 40th birthday!

We had a great time staying at Emcee. Kate and Andrew were brilliant. We were surprising Alisha and arriving separately to her and her partner. Kate and Andrew were brilliant helping us keeping our arrival secret. The communication with them was the best I’ve known from a host. They helped with hiring a car and places to go.

Accommodation

A lovely property located in safe friendly neighbourhood. The house is perfect for long or short stay. We particularly enjoyed sitting out on the screened and airy patio watching the world go by. Brilliant location, easy short walk into Speightstown with its amenities and of course the beautiful and undeveloped beaches.

Family of four This place is just perfect, relaxing and magical! Having the pool was a fantastic bonus and the place is situated right near the beach and local amenities. We took our 3 year old and he had a great time. I would seriously recommend and we will be looking to come back. It is its own mini paradise

Love this cottage!

We have traveled to Barbados for over 30 years and have spent many of those in the Heywoods area.Emcee cottage was lovely, Kate and Andrew were wonderful...feel like I have known Kate for years.Helen the manager was incredibly helpful.Terrific neighborhood and very nice neighbors.Cannot wait to go back!!!

great stay

we loved our holiday at Emcee. Great beds, quiet neighborhood but except sometimes barking dogs.Loved our walk to Speightstown, had a good tasting cutter at caboose. For the shore fishers: only small ones to catch.For the animal lovers bring some catfood and put a bowl of water outside, lots of hungry cats.

Family holiday

We stayed at the lovely emcee for 2 weeks ,there was 6 of us but house was lovely and spacious plenty of room every where ,pool area was great for chill out days at the villa ,easy walk to bars and restaurants, would definitely recommend and use again ,Helen was very helpful with check in and out,and villa owners kate and Andrew very helpful with all information and showed us round villa before are stay ,thank you so much

Amazing property with great amenities and lovely welcoming atmosphere

From the start we were accommodated with ease by the host. Being in a nightmare of a first accomodation that was not as advertised, and needed to leaves ASAP, Emcee accomodation came to our rescue, the host were very responsive and the local liaison Helen was amazing. She made us feel at home and was very hospitable couldn't ask for a better place to spend the time in Barbados with my family

Emcee - a lovely spot

We enjoyed our week at Emcee - a very nice small 3BR house in Heywoods just north of Speightstown. A short drive to the beautiful Heywoods beach and Port St Charles. Very quiet and well maintained. Spent a lot of time sitting on the verandah enjoying the surroundings. A car is necessary.

Great house for self catering

Excellent property in a great local community area. Very close to Speightstown and it’s bars and restaurants. Heywoods beach a short stroll away and Port St Charles across the road where you can use Pier One ( the old Yacht Club). We had a car for our stay but you can get around fairly easily from Emcee using the buses to most parts of the island. The plunge pool was added bonus and big enough for four adults. Only negative we could find was that one on the air conditioning units was very noisy when switching on and off Overall fantastic property though and would recommend for two couples or a family

Speightstown vacation

We had a great time at Emcee! It was perfect for our family of 4 with 2 kids of 9 and 12 years old! The kids loved having their own room! The plunge pool was perfect! The kids wished it was bigger on the first time they saw it but we used it everyday and did not hear any more complaints from them! The neighborhood is very quiet and easy to navigate! We did not have a rental so we walked everywhere in Speightstown. It took us: 6 min to walk to Caboose and an extra min to get to Heywoods beach. 15 mins to Jordan’s Supermarket. It was a very relaxing vacation!!

Fantastic Location

The property was clean and the air conditioners were available when we needed them. Birds were always chirping from the trees that surround the property. The Pool guy always came on schedule and the property management team was there to assist when we called. The beaches (and there are a number of them) were close by and allowed us to go for early morning walks from the villa every day. The water was crystal clear. Bakeries are close by and great for getting fresh bread and pastries. Speightstown, nearby, is a quaint, but quiet old town. If you like English colonial architecture, you will find it here. It was a Fantastic Location and great for families.

Good spot with plunge pool perfect for kids and cooling off.

A well-furnished place not far from the beach with a little plunge pool for cooling off is great. We enjoyed the place and Spieghtstown has some nice beaches - especially the little spot by Port St Charles and the bridge which is calm and gorgeous. Only comment for improvement in on the electricity usage. We ended up spending 90% more than they allow on the electricity with the booking but this only equated to £4 per day spend so in the end, I would prefer this was just on the cost of the property to remove any stress caused by this element. Does not effect my review of 5 stars though. The hosts are lovely and very responsive.

The best week away

Emcee really lived up to its billing. First of all, Andrew and Kate were super helpful and responsive with literally every small question which was appreciated as we hadn't been to the island before. We really liked the beach recommendations too. The villa is perfect, deceptively spacious and the air con and plunge pool help so much with the heat. We loved being amongst the locals, and the Bajan people overall contributed so much to our enjoyment of this holiday. Our 6 year old daughter said they are 'joyful' and I think that sums it up. The location is great just a short walk into Speightstown. I'd recommend a stop en route at the Caboose bar for the best rum punch that we had in a week. We also loved the Fish Pot restaurant and Local and Co. Both a little more $$$ but such high quality. We loved the island and staying at Emcee

Emcee ticked met every expectation

This property is located in a fantastic area, a short walk to the centre of Speightstown and beautiful Heywoods Beach. It was invaluable for us staying amongst Bajan families. There is nothing quite like experiencing life with the locals, they were friendly, supportive and fun. The property is spacious and light, it is ultra comfortable and to sit outside is a real experience. The plunge pool was larger than we anticipated and helped keep us cool, whilst the garden had a wealth of wildlife to watch including hummingbirds and lizards. I cannot fail to recommend this property and Kate and Andrew were very knowledgeable about the area and provided comprehensive information prior to arrival. They also offered to book taxi transport to and from airport if needed which is a bonus. Would most certainly return to Emcee.

Speightstown spot!

My family of three had a nice relaxing stay at Emcee for the first week of February. The space is well appointed, with a fully stocked kitchen and all the comforts you need. The AC works well, and we found ourselves only using it at night as there was a good cross breeze most days. The pool is not deed enough for swimming but a nice cool spot to hop into after a day of adventuring. A couple more beach towels would have been handy as we only had two. Lots of great beaches a short walk/drive away and we found a local gem right near Port St.Charles where we swam with sea turtles on a few evenings!! A huge highlight of our trip! The home is well maintained and close to all amenities you’ll need like restaurants beaches and groceries(do go to Jordan’s over Eddies for groceries-much better selection and shopping experience). One thing to point out is the rental is in a residential neighbourhood, with all of the comings and goings of a local community. Having said that, the neighbours were very friendly and helpful. The beach is close but you do have to cross a fairly busy road to get there. Not a concern with older kids or for adults but a bit of a trek with a two year old. All in all a great place to stay in Speightstown!

Superb value, excellent location, spacious and light, a home from home with some extras.

We spent a month in Emcee and quite honestly it was not long enough. From the moment we entered this spacious villa, we felt very welcome and totally relaxed. So glad we arranged to have Jenni pick us up and thank you to the Scotts for arranging this for us. Kate and Andrew were so very helpful and accommodating; their Rough Guide being so interesting and helpful. Great ideas and suggestions made. Annette came once every week to clean the villa and to change the beds. A little added extra in our holiday and greatly appreciated. Speightstown has changed remarkably; its beach now having around 7 catering outlets, so really no need to leave Speightstown all vacation. We did read about a group who experienced extraordinarily, high, electrical consumption, but ours was well within the allowed 22 units per day, no problem. We simply ensured that the AC did not run when we were out of the villa. The beds were very comfy; the owners had just purchased new mattresses and we were first to use. Slept well and enjoyed early morning bird song from bed with a coffee, while looking out the window at tropical, palms. Whilst we were there, a company came to update the Wifi to super fast broadband- WOW, it is faster than we have at home. We always enjoyed our walks to Heywoods Beach either through the estate, or via the ginnel, which was a great short cut. Some evenings we had a sun downer at Port St Charles and saw "our beach" from the other side. We did hire a car, however it is very possible to access shopping and the beaches without one. We will certainly be back next year, so thank you for having us.

Renter beware

I was at Emcee from March 29th to April 8th, 2018. The house is absolutely beautiful, the location is great, walking distance to the beach and Speightstown. Full size fridge and stove, washer and dryer, plunge pool, you have everything you need in a nice and quiet neighborhood. Our issue started at check in. Since this property has a surcharge fee for electrical consumption over and above 22 KwHrs units per day, the property manager left us a note with some instructions and the meter reading. Once she left, we unpacked our car and luggage and decided to take a picture of the meter, the reading was up 286, and our total for our stay was only 220. In 20 minutes that it took to unpack, the meter went up 286. something is not right. Being mature professional working adults, we didn't stress over this insignificant issue, we had proof through pictures that were stamped with the date and time so we didn't fuss over it. We thought we would simply show the owner the pictures and he would see the discrepancies in the 2 meter readings. I'm shocked to say that we were wrong. The owner accused us of running the AC units with the windows open 24/7. When he was given the pictures he claimed they were too blurry to read. I wish I could attach them here so future customers could see how blurry they are. The pictures were taken in the beautiful Barbados weather with blue skies with a professional camera, they're far from being blurry. My advice to potential renters is to negotiate the electrical consumption in the price. This would alleviate the issue we had with an unsympathetic owner that accused us of, heaven for bid, using electricity and then claiming the proof was blurry. Jason

Emcee- A good Bajan stay

The rental although located in a residential area was quiet and allowed for rest & relaxation. In addition, the neighbours were friendly. It was well situated within walking distance of some great beaches & restaurants as well as the historical Speightstown. The property was clean with very comfortable common areas and a well equipped kitchen. The front verandah was great for relaxing as well as the pool, and the small sitting area under the stairs ideal for reading. The upstairs master bedroom was cozy and the balcony over looking the pool was a bonus. There was very good exchange of emails with the owners Andrew & Kate. Furthermore, the property manager Helen was helpful and extremely flexible during the process of checking in & out. In all, an enjoyable stay and I definitely recommend Emcee to anyone desirous of a lovely place to stay.

Our best holiday in Barbados yet!

Thank you to Kate and Andrew for allowing us to stay at your lovely home in Speightstown. We were very grateful to be able to travel to the island during a pandemic. Neighbours are very friendly. Proximity to Heywoods beach is a bonus. No need to leave SpTown as there are great restaurants (The Local is one) in town with a terrific supermarket Jordan's. We managed to cook a couple of dinners at Emcee (local chicken and local fresh veg from Jordan's) and everything was really comfortable. Thanks again!!

Kate is a Special needs teacher and I am an Engineering officer in the Merchant navy. My wife and I own Emcee, in Barbados and The Old Barn annex in Beckwithshaw, Harrogate. Both homes are very dear to us and guests have commented on how welcome they were made to feel in the home from home atmosphere in both properties. Indeed, we aim to offer our guests as much care as possible during their stays in warm and friendly environments. We have travelled quite a bit and stayed in many self-catering villas, both home and away and so have gleened from this what we all need during our breaks from reality. As I have said above, I work as a merchant seaman and know quite a bit about foreign shores. For me, Barbados has that mix of having familiar establishments yet having a different character. Barbados is very safe and the weather is 95% fantastic. We started coming to the island in 1994 and have vacationed here most years since. The people are friendly, helpful, chatty and warming. We purchased Emcee in 2008 from an English couple and annually we have made adaptations to the villa, refurbishing the bathrooms and pool. Emcee sits in a quiet, friendly, safe neighbourhood, where you will become part of the local way of living, all witnessed from the veranda and upstairs balcony.

We firmly believe our property offers outstanding value for money. We can meet you at the airport, stopping off to get basic provisions on the way to Emcee if wished and take you to the villa where you are met by our manageress and made to feel most welcome. Our manager's aim is to help all guests during their stay and she is on hand to solve any issues where possible. We enjoy hearing back from our guests and appreciate and take on board any comments they make which will allow other guests to enjoy their stay even more. We do appreciate guests reporting to Helen, any damages incurred during their stay. This is in order that they may be rectified for the following guests. We supply each set of our guests with our "Rough Guide" to Emcee and the island, with handy tips we have picked up while holidaying on the island and some great places to eat, drink, visit. Wendy will clean, change the beds and linen and tidy up after a ten night stay. This time will be arranged on your arrival when you meet Helen. Guests staying 14 nights, will have a clean at the end of 7 nights. Emcee is our home from home in Barbados- relaxing, comfortable, breezy and spacious, open plan configuration downstairs, light and airy. Very high, beamed ceilings, mosquito nets and monkey bars on windows. Our plunge pool now has atmospheric lighting and a salt water, chlorination system, run from the utility/pump room.
