We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rockford Lodge. The location is stunning as it sits right on the river and we had the most wonderful daily dog walks and runs to Watersmeet and the beautiful national trust cafe there. The cottage was very cosy and comfortable with everything you could need for a relaxing stay. Our host Lucy was very helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend staying and would love to return. Thank you for a lovely stay c

Rockford Lodge is a fantastically charming property and a perfect escape. The location is stunning - right next to the river, beautiful walks from the door and an excellent pub serving great beer and food just over the footbridge! We absolutely loved it and haved vowed to come back.

Quaint, well-equipped cottage in a beautiful spot by the river. Great for exploring the south coast path and beaches and villages of North Devon. The nearby town, Lynton, is great for cafés and restaurants but you'll need to drive further for a big supermarket so best to do a bigger shop on the way.

Fantastic little cottage in an amazing area. Access is an extra little quirk but that adds to the fun. The descriptions couldn’t be clearer. Great little pub across the road is a great place to sit when you are not enjoying the walks or playing in the river. Definitely hope to visit again

Thank you for your review on Rockford Lodge and I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. Due to the unique, stunning location of Rockford Lodge, I do make it very clear in the cottage details that it is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. There are photos and details of the access including a video from the bridge to the cottage. We also provide stairgates for the top and bottom of the stairs if needed and there is also a handrail. We are very fortunate that a new team have taken over at the Rockford Inn who have settled in and have made a great success of the pub already. Pete, Jess & Owen the chef are very welcoming and the food is superb! Bookings for evening dining is advisable. Kind regards, Lucy & family

In a valley

Set in a valley the property was peaceful while not seeming completely isolated. Wonderful walk along the riverbank in both directions. Short drive from Lynton and the breah-taking clifftop walk to Valley of Rocks. Highlight was watching the cattle drive across the ford which passed within feet of the riverview room. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

Can't wait to go back

This is such a lovely place. We felt like we were in a fairy tale, nestled in the woods and listening to the stream running by. The host was responsive to our messages and helpful. I hope we get to go back--but for longer the next time. (The stairs up to the bedrooms and bathroom were fine for us but I could see how they might be too narrow and steep for some with less mobility.) Overall, it was a great holiday and perfect location.

A lovely spot to stay

We really enjoyed our stay. The location suited us really well. It’s on the river with paths in both directions directly from the door. The pub across the river is really cosy and serves good beer. It’s also a good spot for access to other parts of Exmoor. The cottage was very clean and reasonably comfortable. We liked the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen is very cosy with the Aga stove. However it was exceptionally cold during our stay and the central heating was not enough to make other rooms comfortable. Although it was not an issue for us, parking up the hill and having to cross a bridge by foot to access the property may not suit everyone.

Thank you for your comments and I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at Rockford Lodge. I do try to make the location of the Cottage very clear in the details and crossing the river over a footbridge makes it very unique and special. With reference to the heating, the cottage details which are available to you explains that the central heating can be overridden beyond the settings so you can choose to have it on as much as you like and the boiler can in fact be turned up if required. I am always available by phone 24/7 for any queries.

Cozy and magical house!

We had a fabulous time at the Lodge! This house is a gem... like walking into the country place you wish your family had had when you were growing up! Our family (myself, my husband, 2 teenagers and a small dog) had such a magical stay for one week of the Easter break. We love how so many of the details and history of the lodge have been preserved, and we felt very at home right away. Walking over the footbridge to the property, waking up and walking out straight onto the river bank, going to sleep with the lovely warm blankets listening to the river... we all felt so comfortable and at home. Being able to walk straight out to the trail (definitely walk to Watersmeet!) and nip across the river for a beverage at the lovely Rockford Inn was exactly what we needed, and the coast and all it has to offer is just a short drive away. We can't wait to come back in the summer so we can take a dip in the river and hit the water at some of the local beaches. Thank you, Lucy, for a lovely stay!

A very comfortable and quiet retreat

We had just three nights at Rockford Lodge, but it was a beautiful, peaceful place in which to escape from everything. I have never had the opportunity to stay anywhere so close to a river, but by the end we were wishing we could take a little part of the East Lyn home with us. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed, including in the kitchen (and it was great to be able to cook with an Aga that was identical to one we used to have when I was young :) ). Walks from the property were remarkably beautiful. Wifi was fast and reliable. Great to have so many books and games in the cottage - could easily have stayed for a few weeks just sitting and reading! Parking was tight on the first try but was easy once I'd worked out where to position the car...and the car park in Brendon just up the road was very useful to be able to turn around and head in the opposite direction. The trips to unload and reload the car took some effort but the road was quiet and it was good exercise :) The back of the cottage is quite dark as it is built into the hill, but this turned out to be part of the cozy attraction of the place, and there was plenty of light to the front. Very well-looked-after garden. Great location to explore the North Devon and Somerset coasts, and wider Exmoor just to the south. Beautiful and memorable. Thank you!

Rockford Lodge has been a cherished part of our family for over 50 years. My parents, along with my two older brothers and myself on the way, devoted many years to furnishing, decorating, and partially restoring it, making it a place to be shared with others. It's a joy to now visit Rockford Lodge with my three children, ushering in a new generation. While my mother still visits the cottage regularly, the responsibility of its management has been passed on to me. I invite you to visit our website, and should you need any assistance, please feel free to reach out. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Rockford Lodge soon.

この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由

Rockford Lodge is set in a small hamlet with a few cottages and a traditional pub, the Rockford Inn. They offer a warm welcome, local ales, ciders and homemade meals. The East Lyn river runs through the valley offering salmon and trout fishing with wonderful walks in either direction.

この宿泊施設の特徴

The cottage is ideally situated for a peaceful and comfortable holiday. Rockford Lodge is extremely spacious offering a sitting room with open fire, a TV area, separate dining room and the wonderful River Room. The kitchen is a warm, welcoming area for family and friends to congregate around the AGA. The three bedrooms are all spacious with plenty of storage and comfortable beds made up with Egyptian cotton. Waking up the gentle sound of the East Lyn river is and birdsong is quite magical. Leave the car in the car park and venture up river towards Brendon (the Stag Hunters Inn offer a warm welcome and a pool table) or wander down river to the famous Watersmeet (for a cream tea) and onwards to Lynton and Lynmouth. A beautiful seaside town offering fantastic fish & chips and mini golf. Take the famous Cliff Railway up to Lynton to explore more shops.

Rockford Lodge really is ideally situated for a perfect holiday with family and friends where you can choose to do as little or as much as you like! We are privileged to share it with so many over the years. If you choose Rockford Lodge for your holiday, we can assure you of a wonderful holiday. Lucy & family
