Lovely stay

We had a lovely stay. The house has lots of character and is in a lovely village with shop and village pub. Some of the blinds didn't work and the bin didn't close, but those were minor points. We would recommend.

Lovely property. Well equipped kitchen. All as described - just be careful of the low ceilings and the steep staircases. All beautiful features of a lovely Cotswold cottage.

Lovely stay

This was our 2nd winter stay here.We had a lovely , wintry family stay , the cottage was very comfortable and the open fire made it so cosy . Ideal location for visiting nearby villages and shops also for lovely country walks .

We had a great stay at Gassons view, it was in a great location perfect to get to lots of little villages close by. The house was perfect for 5 adults & our baby too. We could easily park outside the house each night even though there's not an driveway it didn't matter.

Great place, New toilet brush!

Gassons View is stunning! Would 100% would return, easy access to everywhere! The only thing that needs to be changed is the upstairs toilet brush ASAP! Found heavily soiled on arrival! Otherwise perfect!

Perfect!

We loved our stay here. Perfect for our family. Very comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. The staircases require careful navigation, not for those with mobility issues, but this charming cottage provides a taste of the Cotswolds that you won’t forget. We’ll hopefully return here on our next trip to the area.

Our stay at Gasson's View

A great spot for a short break. The village is quiet and their are good pubs nearby. The directions were clear and took us right to the door. Very handy community shop with a good range of essentials. Community playground for small children.

Perfect location, very charming

We had a great stay at Gasson's View to visit family in Filkins. It's a charming space, perfect for our party of 7 to relax, and enjoy. The property manager even left us some treats in the fridge and some fresh Cotswold eggs. We'll be back!

Lovely place to stay

Cosy and central to major roads and places. Lovely time with family. Need a car to get extra shopping bits. Local shop only opens for 1 hour and you need to pre order goods.

Wonderful Stay

We had a very enjoyable stay at Gassons View over Christmas. The cottage is lovely. The fireplace is original and it was great to light the fire. The beds were very comfy. Nice big kitchen and welcome goodies of milk, fresh eggs, butter etc were much appreciated. Only negative comment is the fact we were only left one black bag for rubbish under the sink and dustbins and glass box were already full.

A charming escape in a picture-perfect village!

We absolutely loved our stay here – the whole experience was magical from start to finish. The cottage itself is full of character and charm, really clean, and beautifully kept. Every detail felt thoughtful, and it had a really cosy, welcoming atmosphere. We slept well and found the beds very comfy. There is parking right outside. The outdoor pool is very close, right next to the village shop! The cottage is tucked away in an award-winning village that feels like something out of a storybook. There's a fantastic little village shop just a short stroll away, and we especially loved visiting the Cotswold Woollen Weavers – full of history and beautiful local textiles. We also took a day trip to Bath (very easy drive ~1hr) and had an unforgettable visit to the nearby wildlife park – including watching two rhinos having a dramatic standoff! This is a perfect spot for anyone looking to unwind, explore the Cotswolds, and enjoy a truly special slice of English countryside. We’d come back in a heartbeat and can’t recommend it enough!

Clean me!

Gassons View is a lovely little cottage oozing character in the cutest of villages with a fantastic pub near by. We stayed for 2 nights and generally enjoyed our stay. We played games by the fire and slept well but would say we were disappointed by the condition of the property. The garden was very overgrown and scruffy, there was mould on the wall in the bunk room right by the bed and the whole place looked in need of a deep clean and freshen up (we found dead flies, cobwebs and wood louse). Not what we expected for the price. Otherwise beds were very comfy and it was very peaceful. I think management need to inspect the property and get the owners to have a good spring clean, garden tidy, clean windows and fix the mould before renting it out again.

A lovely stay and great value for money

My sisters and I had a lovely weekend at Gassons View. It provided everything we needed in a beautiful location. The village of Filkins was very welcoming and the thriving village shop was perfect for a few bits and pieces. We didn’t venture into the pool, but in the height of summer would have been perfect. As others have said, the main part of the house is very old, so may not be suitable for those who are tall or have mobility issues, but this didn’t matter for us shorties. The kitchen extension is more recent and we enjoyed sitting at the table in the evening, although the proximity of the aircraft coming into the nearby airfields took us a bit by surprise! Our only wish was that, as keen gardeners, we had brought our gloves and secateurs with us to have more of a tidy up (we couldn’t resist having a good weed of the front path though). There is also a delightful grassed area at the bottom of the garden not mentioned in the details. If it had been mowed/maintained it would have been a great area to relax and catch up under the shade of the trees.

Gassons View Filkins

We have previously reported some issues directly to StayCotswold who said they would raise these with the owner and Property Manager to ensure they are rectified for future guests, sadly we have not received any feedback. The property is ideally situated in the lovely village of Filkins and adequately accommodated our party of seven. Although generally clean the property could do with a deep clean, wood louse infestation in the bathrooms and poorly draining shower. The property was quite dusty resulting in the smoke alarm being activated on three occasions, a quick blow of the dust from the detector resolved this. The small bedroom with bunk beds is uninhabitable due to damp/mould behind the door. The towel rail in the downstairs bathroom requires immediate attention as it trips the consumer unit when switched on. Rubbish removal is an issue, the recycling bin was already overflowing even though left by the rear gate as requested, there was no sign of the grey General waste bin and the garden waste bin in the garden shed was overflowing. The information in the property was dated 2020/21. The gardens were totally overgrown and not practical for sitting out or having a bbq.

Gasson's View: The Inside Story

Gasson's View is a charming old cottage with a nice light kitchen extension in the pretty village of Filkins in the Cotswolds. It was a lovely place to spend a family Christmas with four adults, two children and a dog. The area has lots of good walks, excellent local pubs with delicious food and a useful village shop just around the corner. Unfortunately, the condition of the cottage isn't quite as good as it should be. Whilst the kitchen had plenty of cooking utensils for Christmas lunch, the largest of the electric cooker rings wasn't working and we were only provided with two refuse bags for all our rubbish/recycling which proved a challenge. The downstairs shower room/toilet seems quite new but the upstairs bathroom is shabby and in need of renovation (the cold water tap for the bath hardly works, and the lighting is very poor). In addition, more attention needs to paid to housekeeping - there were several lightbulbs not working which made a difference in the short dark days of winter. We did have a Christmas tree in the living room which was a nice touch but can we suggest perhaps a welcome pack of tea, bread, biscuits etc. and some little bottles of bath toiletries.

Thank you for your lovely comments, Diane. We’re pleased that overall, your family enjoyed staying at Gassons View over the Christmas period and found the location to be excellent. We also appreciate your constructive points which we have shared with the Owner and Property Manager. The largest cooker ring seems to be working fine, however the Property Manager will continue to monitor this closely and will attend to the cold water tap for the bath. An initial supply of tea, coffee and sugar is provided and there are spare bin bags located under the sink, should these be needed. A partial refurbishment has only recently been completed and the Owner does have further plans for some additional works in the coming months. We hope that you will be back to visit the Cotswolds sometime soon!

Lovely quaint cottage. Comfortable stay.

Comfortable quaint cottage. Well equipped. Great location. Stairs very steep. Shame there was only a few bits of fire wood provided and there were a great deal of fly’s both dead and alive in the attic bedroom. However we enjoyed our stay and made the most of the lovely local pub.

Part of the charm of Gassons View, being a characterful period property, includes the low ceilings, exposed beams and steep spiral staircases, although we appreciate this won’t be suitable for all guests so highlight these features in the description. A starter supply of wood is provided for the open fire, although please note that we would not expect the quantity to last for the full duration of a stay, additional logs can be purchased locally. At this time of year, we do see sometimes see some cluster flies around the Cotswolds due to the change in weather but thankfully this lasts only a short while before they quickly disappear again. We’re pleased you had a great stay and hope to see you again sometime!

Not the usual very good standard

We’ve booked with Stay Cotswolds before and have found them to be very efficient and have a very good standard of properties in their portfolio. Sadly, not this time. The house was filled with various insects and wasn’t cleaned thoroughly and it could use some new furniture. Understand that the antiques are perhaps part of the charm but some of the upholstery is quite dated. Filkins is quite a charming town with an excellent pub though. The sheets are all clean and beds are comfortable. However, the master bedroom did smell like a dog. A good carpet wash might be necessary to get rid of smells.

Could have been perfect

The bedrooms were excellent, although the bed in the smaller double room was slightly too small. The stairs are a challenge for both old and young folks, so need some care when using. The only shower is located within the kitchen, which meant a daily queue and lacked a little privacy. The garden was in a poor state and the path to the larger part of the garden not particularly child or pet friendly, with overhanging branches and too easy access to the neighbour's garden. Both garden spaces could use some TLC. The location and village is wonderful, with a friendly & convenient local shop and a local pub where food was exceptional. Could have been perfect.

Many thanks for your feedback Gwen and, as a consequence, we have revised our listing to make it clear that the designated outdoor space associated with the property is the courtyard and all other space beyond that is a wild, additional area should guests choose to utilise it. The spiral staircase is integral to the property and we would suggest those who find this type of staircase on the trickier side opt for one of our other fantastic properties. The bed mentioned is listed as a 4' large single this means, if a party of 6 is using the property, this bed will be fabulously cozy! We are so glad you had a wonderful stay and do book again soon.

A lovely cottage in a beautiful village

We spent a wonderful pre-Christmas weekend with our children and grandchildren in this very comfortable and atmospheric cottage. It was very well-equipped with a wonderfully practical kitchen which enabled us to cook a celebratory meal for us all and very comfortable lounge where we were able to enjoy an evening of charades in front of a roaring fire! We explored the quintessentially Cotswold village of Filkins and ended our weekend with a wonderful lunch at the Five Alls pub which has a well-deserved great reputation and was only 5 minutes walk from the cottage. The booking procedure was very straightforward and the staff and guest information was everything we would have hoped for.

An unexpectedly short break in the Cotswolds.

The cottage was booked for a week to act as a base for my son's wedding at Filkins but also for my wife to enjoy a few days on our own; we know the Cotswolds reasonably well but not this particular area around Lechlade. The number of bedrooms allowed family members to stay with us. However due to unforeseen circumstances we had to curtail our stay to just 3 days. However, the cottage was superb and was just what we wanted for our family base. Spotlessly clean with excellent facilities, the kitchen had everything that you could have wanted. It opened out into a conservatory/dining area ideal for family breakfasts whilst the dining room was ideal for a meal, cooked in the impressive surroundings of the kitchen. The bedrooms were of ample size although we only used one, and an upstairs bathroom was supplemented by a lovely downstairs shower room. The heating was excellent and there was ample hot water. The most impressive thing though (apart from its proximity to the excellent Five Alls pub) was its 'homeliness'. It was a pleasure to come back after a day out and be able to relax in a warm, welcoming living room with an abundance of comfy sofas and armchairs (before heading to The Five Alls!!). It is with regret that we had to abandon our stay and we fully understand why it was not possible to reimburse us any of the fee, although we are grateful to StayCotswold for offering us a 10% discount on a future booking though them.
