I had a wonderful time in Caterham! I'm glad that I went the VRBO route for this trip. 🙂

I arrived by myself for the first week of my trip and had a great time exploring and learning about the train, bus, and taxi systems. This location was perfect for being outside of the big city of London yet close enough to visit when I wanted to. The host family is super friendly and helpful and available for advice as I needed it. I had everything I needed there as well. It was so great to have a refrigerator, toaster, microwave in my room for personal use instead of always having to eat out. When my two travel buddies arrived for the final two weeks, we were provided with a driver and car at a very good rate so that we could make a couple of day trips in the countryside to special places we wanted to see. We had so much fun! I would recommend this VRBO very highly and hope that I can stay in touch with the hosts Lucia and William and friend Owen.

Lucy was exceptionally kind

Without too much words, our stay in Caterham was interesting courtesy of Lucy and everyone. We enjoyed every bit of it. I recommend it for anyone anytime anyday.

low cost but also low comfort

We stayed 6 days with our 2 youngsters to visit London and the Southeast. Travel by train to London takes a good hour and getting back in the evening even more as the trains stopped on almost every station. Therefore we did this only twice. The two rooms are more or less practicably equipped regarding the limited space. Unfortunately both beds, the bed sofa (you feel the metal carriers when you sleep on it) and the double bed (worn out mattress) were quite uncomfortable. They should be both replaced.

Super nette Gastgeber ! Haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

Schöne Lage im ländlichen Surrey südlich von London. Bahnhof ist nur 10 Gehminuten entfernt und man kommt sehr gut nach London. Familien Appartement war sauber und mit dem Wichtigsten eingerichtet. Es standen im Raum Kühlschrank, Mikrowelle, Wasserkocher und Toaster zur Verfügung. Das Schlafzimmer hatte ein sehr weiches Doppelbett und der zweite Raum eine große ausklappbare Schlafcouch für 2 Personen. Das angrenzende Bad verfügte über eine Dusche, kleines Waschbecken und Toilette. Preis/Leistung Top! Wir würden wieder kommen. Liebe Grüße

Nette Unterkunft mit wenig Komfort

Ein Kühlschrank und eine Mikrowelle im Wohnzimmer stellen die Küche dar. Das Geschirr steht im Wohnzimmerschrank. Zum Spühlen dient eine Plastikwanne. Das Wasser hierfür gewinnt man aus dem kleinen Waschbecken im Badezimmer. Das Ausziehsofa im Wohnzimmer ist zum Schlafen aufgrund der vorhandenen querenden Stahlstreben ungeeignet. Die Tür zwischen Wohnzimmer und Schlafzimmer ist verzogen und nicht schließbar, sie geht immer selbstständig auf. Das Badezimmer entspricht dem englischen Standard. Positiv sind das Bett im Schlafzimmer, problemloser WLAN-Empfang und Fernseher mit Sky und 15 Minuten Fußweg zum Bahnhof, wobei der Rückweg vom Bahnhof sehr steil ist. Das Haus liegt an einem kleinen Park, Geschäft mit langen Öffnungszeit sind 5 Minuten entfernt, die Wohnung ist für 4 Personen nur bedingt geeignet, für zwei Personen noch annehmbar.

Posizione tranquilla e a breve distanza (10 minuti a piedi) dalla ferrovia (comodissima) sia per raggiungere Londra sia per chi come noi arriva da Gatwick. Appartamento essenziale ma dotato di tutto l'indispensabile (anche se manca il piano cottura,sostituito efficacemente dal microonde combinato) Abbiamo gentilmente trovato in casa alcuni alimenti necessarii per iniziare il soggiorno I proprietari sono gentili, cordiali e disponibilissimi per qualsiasi esigenza. La proprietaria parla benissimo italiano. Raccomando la sistemazione per chi vuole visitare Londra con un pò di calma e non è alla ricerca di una casa di lusso ma di una soluzione pragmatica ad un buon prezzo

Nice place to live and the Landlady & Lord were so kind that we felt like belonging to the family!

We stayed here 6 weeks through January and first part of February 2017. Our accommodation included only basic items like a fridge, microwave oven and kettle, but that suited us well. Sky TV with some 800 channels(!) was also included, as well as a fast internet connection (ADSL) through Wifi. Regardless of the "varying" UK January weathers we enjoyed very much of the vast network of trails, parks, commons and all in this beautiful area of hills and valleys in Surrey Hills. Added with tons of history (Kenley Air Field, old churches, hospitals, barracks, etc.). The connections to London area worked extremely well for us as well, mainly by Southern Train services, but utilizing buses and even trams sometimes as well.

What we love about this area is the fact that we enjoy all the benefits of Surrey village life and country living, local pubs, golf, riding and beautiful country walks which have proved invaluable during the past two years with all the lockdowns and social distancing we have been subjected to. Now that we can enjoy more freedoms again, guests will like the fact that we are just an hour from central London by train from Caterham station. Our many past guests have loved being so close to London and yet our rates are comparatively low for what we offer. This attracts more and more long stay guests as the cost of serviced apartments in this area is now very high. We do not offer what a fully serviced apartment or a serviced studio apartment can offer as our suites are essentially holiday accommodation units, but we do our best to provide guests with some kitchen appliances so as to make their stay more comfortable.

This is an excellent area for people of all ages. Our adult daughters have been riding at a local riding school since they were just three years old, as a family we have enjoyed country walks in the North Downs, the Kenley Aerodrome and a local petting farm where people can meet the animals as they walk through the charming country path through the fields. Now pubs and cafes are open again, a country walk ending with a drink at one of our local pubs / inns or a coffee at one of our many local cafes - (we missed them all so much during the recent lockdowns). We have tennis and badminton courts in the beautiful Queens Park, just across the road from our house, and a bowling club, mini golf, croquet and a children's playground and in the summer you can sit on the green with a picnic and watch a traditional game of cricket in the perfect setting or take the children to the playground and treat yourselves to an excellent Kelly's ice-cream from the kiosk there. If you are here in November, you can enjoy the Caterham Dene spectacular firework display also from the park or from the windows in the two suites on the middle floor, if you would rather admire it in the comfort and warmth of your own home. Our local King and Queen pub nearby often stage Plays and events from their makeshift outdoor theatre and the Miller Centre amateur dramatics theatre in Caterham can certainly match the London stage in excellence but at a fraction of the cost.
This area is safe and virtually crime free compared to other more central areas, yet we still have easy access to London whenever we want it. London Bridge is an hour or less away by train and Gatwick is just 20 minutes away,
