Perfect Position in Paradise
The Yellow House is RIGHT on the beach. If you visit, as we do, in the 'low' season, end of May/beginning of June, you basically have a private beach with a few other couples pleasantly spaced out over the whole thing. The proximity of the sea & the stunning views from the beautiful terrace are two of the joys of renting The Yellow House Upper.
The apartment itself is clean & well equipped. Not super luxurious but a comfortable & pleasant place to stay. The owners are incredibly helpful & lovely people. The overall ambience is one of relaxed friendliness & tranquillity.
Other parts of Corfu are hectic & Kaminaki feels like a hidden jewel. We have been staying here for six years now, every year we consider an alternative but nothing has this combination of simplicity & beauty. The house, consisting of the two apartments (Upper & Lower) can be taken in its entirety, but we have only ever rented the Upper part. While other people have been below us, we were not over-aware of their presence. So no problem there. (However they were not a noisy family with a crying baby, which might have more of an impact!!)
We tend to eat out at local tavernas, but the kitchen is clean & well equipped for all basic cooking needs. We always have a salad lunch on the shaded terrace. So easy to pop up from the beach, have a gentle lunch & siesta, then wander back down to soak up a few more rays.
A car is a must for getting up the very steep hill to the main road & going off to discover more little bays on the coast near Kassiopi. Parking is on the one track road & a small car is a good idea!
There are two tavernas in Kaminaki itself but loads more in St Stephano & Agni and other little bays along the coast. I'd highly recommend Toula's, the Agni Taverna, in Agni & Eucalyptus in St Stephano (which has lots more).
I booked the Yellow House Lower for my sister & her husband, both of whom adored it. He paints & she loves simply sitting watching the swallows swooping over the blue Ionian Sea.
All in all, it's a fabulous place to spend a week or two. Comfortable, clean & in the most idyllic spot.
