Had a lovely time in Kailua. We were a party of 7, three adults and four children and spent 17 nights in the wonderful home. The owner was responsive and easy to work with, and linked us with a property manager who met us at the home and was available as needed. The home sits at the end of a street in a residential area. The house was spacious, had a great pool, hot tub on the deck, with two separate outdoor living areas. There is a large covered patio next to the pool and there is a large wrap around deck on the other side of the home. There are ocean views from the deck. We ate dinner on the deck almost every night. The interior of the home is well appointed, has an open floor plan, a wonderful kitchen, four bedrooms, each with AC, three bathrooms. There is beach access about a mile from the home. We usually drove aprox 3 miles to Kailua beach which has parking, bathrooms, trees for shade along the beach, scenic views. You can snorkel at the end of the beach near the boat ramp. Saw lots of tropical fish, large eel, some game fish all in about three to four feet of water 20 yards off shore. The home is about a 20 to 30 minn drive to Waikiki or Honolulu. Did some surfing in Waikiki, if you need to rent a board don't rent it from a beach vendor. There are several shops a couple blocks from the beach which have better boards and cheaper prices. We did lots of day trips all around the Island. It was easy getting around using the highway system. Some of our party utilized the public bus system which has a stop 2 minn away, to go to Honolulu when others wanted to go elsewhere. We bought 4 day go passes from Costco, for under $200 and did aprox $500 worth of excursions. The pill box hike by Lanikai beach was awesome. About 20 minn South of the home is the Makapuu Point, which has a great easy paved hike to a light house with great views. Costco is 10 minn around the corner. There are several scenic stops by the Point. Near by the home is a botanical garden that has free kid fishing on weekends. There was tons to see and do if you are in to that, if not the beaches by the home were great places to chill.
