Amazing

Highly recommend staying at this property.beautiful quiet setting. But within half an hour so many places to visit including the breath taking jurassic coastline that we could of stayed for a month.

Cozy and relaxing

We had a lovely stay. The cottage is very comfortable and perfectly located. Lovely big comfy beds. The extra logs for the log burner were much appreciated making it very cosy when it was so cold outside

Ideal break

Great place and an easy walk into the forest or Burley. Plenty of cafes/pubs/restaurants to use and everyone was really friendly. Everything in the property was as described and really comfortable. Easy to relax and enjoy the area. Would definitely use again.

Wonderful property

We had a fantastic stay in Burley. The cottage was very well kitted out and had everything we needed. It was really clean and comfortable. The cottage is in a brilliant location, close to the village centre and lots of lovely walks right from the door. We would highly recommend and will definitely be back! Thank you Nicole!

New Forest Getaway

The property was perfect for a peaceful week in the New Forest. The owners were accommodating and the property well managed. There was plenty of space for the kids, grandparents and our young dog. The location is perfect for short drives to the coast as well as walks and cycle riding nearby. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the spacious garden with BBQ.

Just so peaceful

We stayed for 3 days, Just the two of us plus the dog to get away from the pace of life in London and we couldn’t have been more relaxed, the cottage has everything you could need including the most comfortable beds we’ve ever had in a property. Everything in the cottage was high quality and the cottage itself was cleaned to an immaculate standard , we spent our days wandering around the towns in the new forest and our evenings eating indoors and watching films it was heaven ! My tips would be bring food or have it delivered as there is very little nearby in terms of shops and take a torch as it is very dark on the roads at night in the winter. We would definitely stay again and long to be back there now that we have returned to the hustle and bustle ! Thanks Nicole for everything

Lovely but some issues

The stay was generally good. On arrival there were some flowers and a cake for us to enjoy so it got off to a good start. The house is in a lovely setting, it was clean and there was a manual on how most things worked. The description mentions underfloor heating in the kitchen but it was off and the floor was incredibly cold in mid-February, so bring slippers in the winter months. There was nothing in the manual about it. The biggest issue we had was that the temperature adjustment on the shower tap was broken which meant my wife had a scaulding hot shower on the first morning there, the rest of us had to have a bird bath in the sink. We emailed to report it. I had a call from the owner to explain that the tap had been broken for a few weeks and that I could adjust the hot water temperature on the boiler. I did this but it took a few attempts to find the best temperature. Why was the tap not fixed sooner if it had been broken for a few weeks? The key is in a key safe, surely a plumber could have been contracted to fix the tap sooner. There were only 2 towels for 4 of us to use. We hunted throughout the house for more, but found none. Again, I emailed about it but had no reply. On returning home we did receive an email to say that we should have phoned instead as there were more towels available in the locked outside shed. The linen had holes in it, especially along the seams. Although it was clean, this did not give the feeling of luxury linen as per the description.

Perfect for a week away from it all

We loved staying here, and will do so again, I'm sure. The cottage is well decorated, well equipped and well maintained. It is particularly cosy as the weather is getting colder, and the wood burning stove adds to its charm at this time of year. The enclosed garden is lovely, and I'm sure many hours can be spent relaxing there when the weather is slightly better. Access to the forest is just a couple of minutes walk down the road, and within a very short drive are many more walking opportunities. Burley village itself is a 5 minute walk away. In short - we'll be back.

Delightful cottage, garden and location.

A comfortable, nicely decorated cottage surrounded by a lovely garden. Further enhanced by the next door fields where Geese and Guinea fowl roam.

Beautiful cottage in the best location!

We absolutely loved staying here, as did our whippet Alfie! The garden in beautiful, the house is perfect and we had no issues at all during our stay. When we did need to speak to the owners about the bbq they were very fast at responding! The house was also spotless.

Blissful break in a glorious cottage

The cottage has everything you need in an idyllic setting - close to Burley for the essentials. Dave the owner was incredibly helpful during the storms (our stay coincided with all three) but all was fine. If the weather had been better, we would have used the garden more (kids loved it) but we cosied up in the cottage and did walks in the breaks in the weather. Wonderful with everything you need for a break!

We moved to Burley 25 years ago and fell in love with the unique beauty of the area and New Forest life style, which coupled with the close proximity to some of the best beaches and coastline the South coast has to offer makes it the perfect location for relaxation and recreational pursuits.
It was the most wonderful area in which to bring up our daughter and we feel very spolit to have lived in such a superb location yet less than 2 hours from London.

Gardeners Retreat was originally built at the turn of the last century for the gardener of Shappen House. When an opportunity arose to purchase the cottage we were wowed by its superb location and lovely views, central to the village yet tucked away from the everyday hustle and bustle, so peaceful but not remote. We were lucky enough to secure the neighbouring Keepers cottage too and so set about restoring the cottage to a wonderful Forest home for family and guests to experience the lifestyle we have so enjoyed.
