We've stayed at a lot of VRBOs and this was probably the most successful one we have ever had. First, the house is comfortable, and an interesting combination of elegant design with rustic touches. There was absolutely nothing frumpy or rundown in the house -- the beds had beautiful linens, the towels were Turkish foutas, and the kitchen was well-stocked (and everything was even labeled). About nine times out of ten when we stay at VRBOs there is only one knife (and not a good one at that) and a dearth of important kitchen tools like a garlic press, barbecue tools, etc. This was not the case at this house! In fact, they had a plethora of high-end Henckels knives, which really makes a difference when you're cooking. The kitchen is set up how you would want your own kitchen -- not like a typical rental.
The real gem of the home, however, is the yard and the pool. We had sought out a house with a large fenced yard because we have an elderly dog and wanted to give him a nice summer away from the city. We could not have been more pleased: the house was well fenced and gated, the yard was large and beautiful, with a wild (yet accessible) feel, and the pool was soooo nice. It is heated, which makes a HUGE difference for me since most pools are too cold for me. I spent many hours each day just floating around in the pool, watching all of the birds who came to eat at the feeders. The pool is very well managed and does not have a strong chlorine smell and did not make our eyes red. We also ate most of our meals in the screened porch, so we actually didn't spend that much time *inside* the house.
In the evenings, we watched movies, as the house has several movie services connected (Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.) for free movies or rentals.
The house is located in the Springs, which is Northwest of East Hampton. It was wooded, yet didn't feel isolated (there are neighbors), and was about a 10-15 minute drive from towns (Amagansett, East Hampton, Sag Harbor) and farmstands. It's tricky to go to the beach in the East Hampton area -- I wish I had figured out in advance how to get a beach permit (though we spent most of our time in the pool), so that would be worth looking into.
Last but not least, the owner, Farnaz, was lovely to deal with. She responded to all of my emails, was kind and considerate, and made it easy for us to arrange things like cleaning service, trash removal, etc.
In sum: We loved it.
