We live in Raleigh and use the cottage ourselves for our family one weekend or week per month (in the summer), so we are not absentee landlords. We can stay on top of the little things that can go missing or get broken with everyday summer usage, in particular. Our maids are the best and keep the house beautiful. Since we use the house regularly ourselves, we attend to the details that need attention. We are only a phone call away, in Raleigh, and have many friends and neighbors on the island. So, we are not distant, absentee owners.

We vacationed at many North Carolina beaches before settling on Bald Head Island. At other beaches, though, we spent half of our time going from hot cars to the store, restaurants, etc., along crowded roadways. At Bald Head, riding in the golf carts along the quiet steets, shared by bicycles and roller bladers, is half the fun. We selected the location of our cottage, 'Second Wind,' because of the great ocean views, privacy of the oversized lit, unobstructed ocean views down Water Thtush Court to the ocean, and proximity to the BHI Club and ocean access. Because we have an estate lot, larger than the typical lot, we have privacy from neighbors and virtually no road noise, as we are on a quiet cul de sac. We walk to the BHI Club for the pool, golf, to use the athletic room, lunch or dinner. We especially like take-out lunch of dinner from Horizons, which we often eat from our screened in porch or indoor dining table, watching the ships go by (unique to our lot) or the sun go down. Our long and derp porches are the best feature of our house! Second Wind is great for family gatherings. We built the house so that two families could enjoy the house together, with two master bedrooms, each with king bed and bath. We often invite another family to join us for long weekends at BHI.

The porches are the best feature of our house! We live on the porches in the summer, and you will too, on your vacation. The views are incredible and the upholstered furnishings on the upper level allow you to while away the hours in comfort. The screened in porch with paddle fan allows you to stay outside late into the night, without bugs, and socialize with your family or friends, while listening to the outdoor sound system. The large indoor dining table is great for building puzzles. Other great features of 'Second Wind' are the ample sized master bedrooms with king beds and pillow-top mattresses. The next best feature is the oversized lot, which means you can play your music and laugh a little louder. Second Wind is a welcoming and restful home away from home.
