Upon arrival of Driftwood Inn, we were initially extremely pleased. The house was as advertised.
The house overall is in need of a renovation. The kitchen is small, tight, and barely functional for more than 1 person in it at a time. While there are ample supplies of dishes, there is NO space at all for any place to put your groceries except the refrigerator. As we started pulling dishes out to use, bowls to clean our food, etc, we noticed that pretty much everything needed to be washed. The giant spider living behind the microwave gave us all a startle, but it has been eliminated. A pest control service should be used as many others pests were seen and dealt with.
The house cools nicely thanks to the workhorse air conditioner. The ceiling fans in all the rooms help nicely too. We had issues with the family room fan stuck in the "high" setting, but that was resolved by mgmt on Monday of our stay.
It is nice the linens are supplied so those don't need to be packed or rented, however, 1 kitchen towel is not enough for ANY kitchen. While the new laundry machines are available to wash your own towels, it would just be nice to not have to constantly be doing laundry.
The bathroom linens supplied were sufficient. Bathroom cleanliness was average. Along with the kitchen, things were not done thoroughly. The cleaning service should be talked to about spending more time. Kitchen floor had hair, dust, dog food left over from previous guests. Bathroom floors had hair and dust.
A vacuum was supplied, but NO broom (at a beach house, really?)
Beds are hard and extremely uncomfortable, these should be replaced.
Porch was used everyday for meals. This is a great addition to the property, but the screens need to be replaced on the doors as they have been ripped or cut by previous guests to allow entry after being locked out of the porch. This is usually a $20 fix, and about an hour to do at most.
The dual decks again, are a beautiful addition to the house, however, the stairs going down from the master side of the house are connected to the rest of the deck by 1 nail. They move and shift while stepping on it. This is a DANGEROUS HAZARD and need to be repaired or replaced IMMEDIATELY. Thankfully the east side house deck seems to be fine.
All in all, a descent week despite the things noted. Hopefully the issues are taken care of for future guests.
