Upon arriving to Cayman, my colleague and I got the rental car and drove the half hour to our VRBO. We followed the directions to enter a code into the key lock box and it opened. My colleague opened the door and to our shock, there were people staying there already. They apparently had a reservation as well and had been there days already, with another couple to go. I contacted the local contact number that was provided, and then was put into contact with the owner. He asked me where I booked and I told him VRBO and he said he didn't have a VRBO account, or my reservation. After speaking for a bit more, he realized that his colleague who helps with booking may have an account and there may have been a miscommunication. I asked if he could follow up otherwise I'd have to assume that I was scammed and dispute the charge with my credit card company. With nowhere to stay, being on the island, the only option was to stay at one of the absurdly expensive resorts. I went onto the other website, the competitor of this one and found another property, available for the same dates. I booked it and sent a message to the owner explaining this whole situation. As I was getting ready to book one night at the Marriott, she called me back and said to give her an hour to have people come by to look the place over one time. It actually worked out to be a great mistake because the place we actually did stay ended up being so much nicer and within walking distance of 7 mile.
