The major draw for this property is its location. It is literally at the entrance of the VA Creeper Trail, and a short walk to a lovely, historic downtown. Frank was an attentive and friendly host. He checked in on us a couple of times, and brought us an outdoor garbage can when we requested one.
Unfortunately, the house had some major problems that couldn't be quickly fixed or addressed. In the VRBO description, the house is described as modest, but that it had all you would need for a fun vacation. There were several things this house did not have that caused frustration and discomfort, the most important being an adequate supply of water. I have lived in an old house before, and I am aware of the headaches of maintaining a property with old plumbing, but I think it is inappropriate to advertise a home to families when there is inadequate water supply. Basically, our family of six found that we could either take a shower, run the dishwasher, or wash clothes at one time, but if we tried to do two things at once the water would run dry.
The overall maintenance of the house needs to be addressed.: A door came off its hinges while opening it., the paint on the back porch was peeling off, and the railings for the back porch would not adequately protect younger guests from falling. The cabinet drawers in the kitchen were very difficult to open. The house is musty.
This place could be an amazing destination with some investments, but as it is now, in my opinion, it is not worth the money they are asking per night.
