Villa Merah (means 'Red House') was built in 2007 by a local contractor and also the garden was done by locals. The grounds had to be developed, there was no electricity, no running water and a very poor road. Building time took around 8 months.
Pemuteran is a small village with a population of approximately 4.000 people. The people were moved to Pemuteran in a relocation project arranged by the government after the disastreous volcano eruption in 1963 when Gunung Agung erupted in the east of Bali. Over the last 15 years tourism has developed quietly with nice bungalow hotels on the little bay, home stays and some private villas.
