Couple weekends for a special price!!! MissBen - BBI Real Estate rental member

"Steinreich" Cottage is located directly on Lake Huron on the east side of Bois Blanc Island, 5 miles from Cheboygan on the mainland where most visitors embark by scheduled seasonal ferry service or year round air service.
"Steinreich" Cottage offers 12+ guests the ultimate in comfort and peaceful solitude. A wrap around porch and a very open and specious living area with a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, all off the lakefront side of the home are a few of the best features. We can provide comfortable sleeping for up to 15 adults.
A beach side deck is the perfect location to view the crossing ships or for stargazing at night.
There is a Barn fire ring down on the beach (strictly weather permitting).

Go swimming right off the beach in a very remote bay, or at "Snow Beach" Bay just 1 mile from the cottage, or hike, bike, hunt, ski or run on the primarily flat dirt roads and trails. There is "Rusty" in the woods to play with, a row boat and 5 adult and children bikes with 3 adult and two children helmets to explore the island. No guarantee on those.
A year-round destination. For guests who prefer the winter time - snow mobil and country cross skiing on endless trails is only one of the possibilities. Ice fishing is big on the inland lakes. From December-April there is a caterer on the island to order breakfast, lunch and dinner or order groceries by plane.

We provide transportation during the winter months when the boat is not running.

Visitors and residents alike appreciate the remote and quiet lifestyle that the Island offers, with a variety of outdoor and sporting activities to suit every style and taste.
The museum shows you the history of Bois Blanc Island in the Straits of Mackinac.
The year round population of 80 people swells into the thousands as families, sportsmen, athletes, college students, boaters and campers are attracted to the island for it's many seasonal offerings. Daily car and passenger ferryboat service during May to November as well as an air taxi service in commuter prop planes keep folks connected with the mainland communities of Cheboygan, St. Ignace, and Pelleston International Airport.

Or take the kayaks or plane to Makinaw Island. A wonderful day trip.

Bois Blanc Island is a 4 hour drive north from Detroit.

**If you decide to use an air-conditioning unit or humidifier, you will receive an allowance of 22 kWh of electricity per day at no extra cost. Any usage exceeding this limit will incur a charge of $2 per additional kWh, reflecting the high electricity costs on the island. Additionally, Wi-Fi is available upon request.

Lovely place to stay on BBI

Nice, roomy house with great host. Large kitchen/living area made it very comfortable for our group of 9 (ages 17-60). We enjoyed cooking together in large kitchen w/ island + large table and dishwasher. Lots of sleeping room & 2 full baths were great. The gazebo & beach fire pit are wonderful. Miss Ben is very accommodating. Thank you for wonderful place to stay on hidden gem of island. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of BBI in a great house.

Excellent views

This home is such a nice place to stay at to get away from it all. Just a few steps out the door to the beach with amazing sunrises. Kitchen had everything we needed. The beds were soft and comfy and we had extra linens and blankets if needed. There are plenty of towels available too. There only is enough hot water for a quick shower but it heats back up in about an hour for another person to shower, that’s the only draw back. There is kayaks and bikes to use. The island is just so lovely. The homeowner was there to meet us when we arrived and to show us around. Miss Ben was so nice and has such a wonderful home to share.

One of TP is all you get

Necessities not provided. No toilet paper, no paper towel, no trash bags other than one curtesy bag. Toilet paper unfortunately is not sold on the island so this was a problem for our group if 10.

Friends weekend 2021

The property was reviewed at 3-stars due to issues with the property manager. She met us at the property when we arrived and asked repeatedly how many guests were in our group. We responded with 12 guests and an infant ( < 2 yrs old), however, we were mistaken and should have reported 13 guests on the listing as the baby counts toward our total head count. This was a simple misunderstanding and could have easily been addressed the moment we entered the property. Unfortunately, the property manager did not address this at that time and instead began texting us the next day asking for details that were not required on the listing, such as a copy of our driver's license and names of all in the party. She continued to text over the period of the weekend and accused us of being "dishonest" with our count and wanted to charge us for 16 people based on the ferry records. At this point, we offered for her to come over and take a head count of the people at the property and asked her to quit harassing us during our vacation. She did not come over and updated my listing to 13 people without further comment.

Disappointed

Lake area is all rocky no beach. Wear water shoes for sure. Weather was humid and 1 window fan 1 box fan older and 1 9 inch fan did not even begin to cool the upstairs. Went to walmart bought 4 box fans to get it to cool down. Dish ware was terrible. Bring your own pots and pans.not 1good sharp knife most of glasses from a garage sale. They need to through out all dishes and buy new for 16 ppl. Place was not ready for us at 400 oclock. We swept and made beds. Wasn't worth the price at all. Need 4 window units and it would be nice ad cool. Alot of the porch needed a brushing. Spiders and cobwebs all over. Left some items was contacted and said they would mail them to me. Will see. Loft needs to be made into separate bedrooms. Beds were hard. Sheets and blankets were just subpar. Rented a house that slept 12 comfortably ac nice ready for us for half what I paid for this rental. Perfect and peaceful

The pictures online don’t do the property justice. The view of the lake and access was amazing!! Such a relaxing trip. The kids (10 & 11) had a wonderful time playing in the water or enjoying all the fun things stocked in the house. There was never a dull moment. Miss Ben answered all our questions before, during and after our trip. We all can’t wait to go back!!

Property was ok. No hot water. Kept getting excuses. Living room sofa was nasty; dirty and smelled. Ad said two 2-person kayaks. They were unusable; partially deflated. Non-performance towels, cooking oil which are usually standard. Bars of soap were previously used and dirty. Would not rent again.

Great stay

We stayed at the house for just a quick weekend trip to the island. We had four couples and there was plenty of space. The large kitchen and dining area is great. The house was very clean and well stocked for a wonderful weekend. Would definitely recommend it.

Wasn't quite what I expected

Arriving at the property was a different experience, taking the ferry to the island. When we arrived we were greeted by Miss Ben's husband. She was feeling slightly under the weather and was not able to meet us at the home. If you love nature it was wonderful I'd never experienced biting flies until I arrived on the island. The next day the power and the water went out on the East Side of the island. Where we were staying. It was due to a storm, but the storm happened the night before. Miss Ben and her husband made sure we had clean water and even coffee the next morning. The beach area was absolutely beautiful. There were a few downsides to the property like the bugs in the inside. My daughter was attacked by a spider. I think they could have done more work with containing the gnats that were inside the property. I don't think a lot of cleaning was done before we arrived and to my understanding there were guests who left the day we arrived. So we walked in on their filth and that was not pleasant at all. The sheets were not clean but had been flipped. Miss Ben, when made aware of the situation, did come over, take the sheets, clean them, and bring us back clean linen. I just feel for the price we paid it would have been more up to par. There's so much more I can say about this but I've waited so long to post a review many things have been blocked out. The property was not horrible but it could have been a lot better.

Nature lover getaway

We loved how peaceful and quiet this property was. The only sounds you hear are the waves on the shore and the wind in the trees. We saw lots of wildlife too! Having a property on a remote island obviously has some challenges (there aren’t hardware, plumbing supply or Walmart’s on the island!) and the owner worked through some very minor issues with a combination of ingenuity and charm and made it all work for our 3 generation family vacation. We had everything we needed for a very lovely stay. Our only suggestion would be to swap the 2 twin beds on the main floor bedroom with one of the queen beds in the loft bedroom. While the twin beds were very comfy, it would be a tad nicer to have the main floor master with a queen bed!

Great private get away!

My fiancé and I booked a long weekend on Bois Blanc Island. Miss Ben really guided us through the car ferry process and directions to the house. Her husband met us on the property upon arrival which is really inviting. Miss Ben stopped by the next day to see if we needed any help. She was happy to answer all of our questions in a quick manor. Many resources were found about the island and the restaurant menu. We loved sitting on the large covered porch, watching the waves. We built a fire on the beach one night and Star gazed. There was plenty of space in the home and the layout was beautiful. We can’t wait for an opportunity to return!

Best family vacation we've had in a very long time!

This was our 2nd visit to Boblo. We loved it 6 years ago, and enjoyed it even more this time. The owners of this property were very nice and attentive to our needs. My wife and I stayed with our eleven kids, aged 21 to 2. We backpacked the North Shore, camped, kayaked, rode bikes, swam, day hiked, swam, ate ice cream and pizza at the Dinner, swam, skipped rocks, and had nightly campfires on the shore under the stars. It's a fantastic place to be with family. The older kids even took a plane over to Mackinac Island for a day. Lots to do if you love the outdoors. Hope to return again, and sooner than 6 years from now!

We had never heard if Bois Blanc Island but are so thankful we tried something new! The house and island were amazing. Ms Ben is the BEST! It was wonderful to forget the cares of the world and unplug. We will DEFINITELY be back! Thank you Ms Ben for sharing your amazing home and island with us.

Our trip to Bois Blanc Island

We were two families, including 4 adults and 8 children and stayed for 4 nights at summer time. The nature including the lake, beaches and forest were unbelievable! Very quiet and peaceful... We used the kayaks and bikes included with the house every day, kids loved nearby sand beach for swimming, the property was large and comfortable. We set fire at night and kids loved it. The downside was that we arrived to the island and the property was not ready for check in. We contacted the property manager who apologized and said she had urgent health problems and couldn't prepare the house on time. One of the neighbors opened the entrance for us, the property was not clean or ready (we were lucky to bring clean linens and sheets with us). The manager came the next day and helped with laundary. We got a refund for one day. Black flies were bad but only on the first day. Mosquitoes were an issue and we had to always use the spray

Great escape

We had very good time! Owner was very helpful, easy to reach. Property has plenty of room. Beach is very shallow, perfect for smaller kids! There is a lot of things to do in the island, you cant get bored! But also feels very, very private! I would strongly recommend to reserve ferry at least a month ahead, if u coming with the car in the summer. But guys there also very friendly and helpful! Overall we had great vacation!

Remote and relaxing

Close to neighbor on one side. You wouldn’t know it. Lake is extremely clear and clean. House is comfortable and well appointed. Owner has provided everything you would need to have a great time.

I'm the property manager of "Steinreich" and everybody is calling me MissBen.
I'm born and raised in Germany and followed my husband to the U.S.A. in 2002.
First located in the greater Detroit Area I took a knitting retreat on Bois Blanc Island and fell in love with the island first sight.

Now I'm proud to be one of the 90 "Year-rounders" on the island. After surviving the winter 2013/14 with 200 inches of snow, all by myself managing the B&B “Insel Haus”, I bought my own little house on the island in the middle of the woods.
It is located just 1 mile down the road from "Steinreich" - so I'm always there to answer questions and are ready to help you find your way around.

March 2020 I got sick with the Covid-19 virus and fought it for 10 weeks. I won!!!
