Our family group of 14 (aged 8, 10, 12, 13, 13, and 17, plus older folks) had an truly excellent 9-night stay at Villa Montine beginning just before Christmas. It was all we expected and more. Brooks Hall, who oversees the Villa, was fully and helpfully responsive before and during our stay. For example, he helped us hire a superb chef, Makensy Juan Moraga, who works with thecostarica.chef.com. For a very fair price and with a helper, Makensy made dinner for us 6 of the 9 nights, working with us on menus, shopping, cooking, serving, and cleaning up. The Villa itself, including its small but very nice pool, fully matches the photos on the website; but the beach, with its wonderful play of low and high tides and wide open stretches for walking and running, isn't fully portrayed. It's attractiveness far exceeds the photos. Daily air temperature highs in the low 80's and similar ocean water temperatures were perfect. With the help of Stephan at the surf shop right next door, we had multiple beach chairs and tables set out every day and taken down in the evening. Some of our group took surfing lessons from Stephan's team. We did excursions to zip-line and view monkeys, which were well received (although the zip-line experience was more "assembly line" than it should be). Overall, it was the house itself, the beach, the weather and water, and Brooks' help that made this the best of multiple other family beach visits that we've had over the years in Jamaica, Belize, and Cancun. There were a few glitches: We lost power twice during two dinners, once until the next morning, and two other times at night. We've asked Brooks to recommend that the owner add a generator or, at least, stock the house with multiple LED battery-powered lights. The master suite, where my wife and I stayed, badly needs a closet or, at least, somewhere to hang clothes. We had to work a bit with Brooks to ensure that the housekeeper was fully attentive to her responsibilities. None of these glitches detracted materially from our great satisfaction with the visit. We're almost certain to return.
