The day we arrived at the apartment, there was low cloud so we saw nothing of the surrounding scenery. More anon.
We found the place easily and Michel immediately greeted us, was very friendly, spoke good English and helped us to settle in. The place is compact, but reasonably well equipped. However there was no kettle, nor tea towels, nor soap. We improvised with a saucepan for a kettle and bought tea towels and soap locally. We also had to ask Michel by email, prior to arrival, to lend us some bath and hand towels which we’re not included, which he did so willingly.
The bed is on a mezzanine floor above the sitting area under a sloping roof, so it does need you to stoop to avoid bumping your head on a low beam. It can also get a bit stuffy in the bed area in warm weather.
The first morning the weather had cleared and when we emerged from the apartment the views of the surrounding mountains were amazing. We had glorious weather for four days and the most positive thing for us was that the location allowed us easily to access all of the iconic walks and views in the area.
The local village of Arrens has a small supermarket , butcher, baker, delicatessen, pharmacy and cafe/ restaurant. There are more shops and a bigger supermarket in Argelès-Gazost which you pass on the way to Arrens-Marsous.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay in this most beautiful part of the Pyrenees.
