First of all a big thank you to Madame Giraud for making my wife and I so welcome. For those that don't know the area, Lussan is a small old stone built village that is perched by itself some 50M above the surrounding country side on a rock outcrop. The most accessible town would be Uzes some 20 Minutes drive by car.. so having transport is essential. We picked a car up from Nimes Airport . The views from the village are lovely , as are the sunrises and sunsets and its probably reasonable to walk the circumference of the ramparts in 15 Mins ( if you didn't stop to admire the country side) . The village when we were there in early Sept was very quiet . Although it is a functioning village with a small primary school you'll have to get in the car to do any shopping. If you're used to living in the countryside, as I do, its not a problem , that's just a part of the experience . However if you live in a town or any large conurbation you may take a while to adjust .. but please try it ;). The Property is a part of a larger structure and forms the top floor. The ground floor is only partially used and didn't cause us any problems at all . The building to the side is occupied but again didn't cause any problems at all . To all intents you might as well be on your own, the stone walls are very thick. The usual facilities are good, the property is clean and tidy. One point in terms of services is that the description mentions that the property has Wifi within short range at the post office. The issue though is that with the stone walls being so thick its not actually available within the confines of the property. If you're desperate the 3g / 4g coverage is acceptable for downloading films . Actually we didn't miss it. As this was our first two week break in 28 years without all or some of our numerous children , my wife and I spent more time talking to each other and reading books which turned out to be one of the best things about the property. In terms of location , Uzes which is a fine old country town is a good base for exploring Gard and further afield. We found no problem in discovering the local area and visiting the local villages and towns such as Nimes, Orange , Avignon, Aigues Mortes and even further afield to the Gorge to Verdon. I would recommend that you have some French , Madame Giraud has some English so between the two parties things can be well understood. It was a lovely place for a quiet break .
