Escape to the mountains at Sleeping Giant B&B, Pauanui/Tairua area.

Surrounded by native bush and beautiful gardens, with views to the fabulous Coromandel Pinnacles, Sleeping Giant B&B is a quiet, private, self contained unit separate from the main house. The property is just a short drive from Pauanui and Tairua beaches. The unit comes with a comfortable King size bed, shower, toilet, Wifi and TV.
There are tea and coffee making facilities, fridge and microwave. (No kitchen sorry) but a continental breakfast with tea, coffee and milk is provided to start your day.
Enjoy the peace and quiet, wander through the bush, or use us as your base while you explore our amazing coast. We are only 12 minutes from Pauanui and Tairua, 25 minutes to Whangamata, and forty minutes to Hahei and Hot Water Beach.
For the keen trampers we are just a few minutes from the historic Broken Hills trails in the Puketui Valley, where you can explore old tunnels and abandoned mine relics. And in the warmer weather we have the beautiful Tairua River at the bottom of the driveway with amazing swimming holes.

Due to Summer peak demand a minimum booking of 2 nights is required between December 16th to February 28th thanks.

We loved our stay at Sleeping Giant, so tranquil the grounds were beautiful. The host was lovely. Local to Whangamata which is vibrant full of café and great atmosphere. My Son was staying in Opoutere camp ground which was only 20 minutes away so we could visit.

Great hosts! lovely place to stay

Very close to Paunui, Tairua and Whangamata if you want to explore those areas. Very peaceful.

The gardens were a tropical paradise-dlowers, fruit trees and a view of the Pinnacles. So secluded in the mountains, it was a private retreat.

Recover and Relax

After a late arrival in the dark and rain the shower and bed were very welcome. Such a delightful surprise in the morning to breakfast outside, with such a pleasant garden and view. Really enjoyed our overnight stay.

You must NOT miss it

The cabin is so clean and tidy everythings u needs all well set up and it's middle of the (native bush) well garden setups. *Specially Jono * was so helpful he always make sure of our privacy and comfort. Shouldn't miss this hidden gem on NZ trip. it's a quiet crowd free place to unwind yourself.definately will come again.

Tranquil retreat

Everything we needed including microwave fridge fan & very comfy bed. Lovely breakfast provided with cereal, yogurt & bread for toast. Close to many lovely beaches & Tairua has plenty of shops & food trucks/places to eat, loved our stay, would like to come back & do more exploring. Fantastic host's:)

This place is quite unique, nestled on a hill with a lovely garden and surrounded by bush. It is very peaceful and quiet. It's a lovely place to chill out. Owners are very friendly. Access is via a 1 km gravel road and up a long steep drive way, but it's definitely worth it

Lovely Overnight Stay

Thank you Jono and Kathy for your hospitality.There to welcome us on arrival and got us settled in.Property was clean and peaceful. Short trip from local town to pick up a fish and chips for a sunset dinner in the gardens.Personal touches and breakfast provided for our early leave the following morning.Overall made life for us very easy and convenient, ideal after a long day travel the day before.Thanks Jono and Kathy, we’ll be back.

Location, location, location!

This is the ideal space to come to if you want to get right into appreciating the beauty of nature. Surrounding yourself in the bush and the views of the pinnacles are a treat! But not only that, it's warm clean and cozy, all you need to have a most comfy stay. Jono is very friendly and welcoming, available to meet all your needs, yet not over the top.

Perfect escape for a romantic long weekend!

This incredibly well kept cabin was the perfect getaway for my girlfriend and I. The cozy space was warm and ideal for cuddling up and enjoying the peacefulness of the area. We spent a few nights just looking up at the stars and then in the morning we were even allowed to go grab a couple delicious mandarins from their impressive garden! Jono and Kathy were fantastic hosts, ensuring our every need was met and making our stay truly exceptional. We highly recommend this charming cabin for anyone seeking a romantic retreat! We're looking forward to coming back in the summer!

We have run a successful B&B in Tauranga, but just recently moved to the beautiful Coromandel region and have brought a home in the peaceful Hikuai Valley, close to Pauanui and Tairua beaches, and only a short drive to so many other great places like Hot Water beach and Cathedral Cove. Come and enjoy the peace and quiet of our private unit while you explore this local slice of paradise.
