Thanks Mike. You were a great crowd, playing music, well organised, visited the local attractions and left the place tidy. It will be a pleasure to host you again.

The lovingly restored former Hotel D’Angleterre with great garden and swimming pool. Ideal for a large family of 21. Our genial host, Martin, was on hand to advise and was a great help when we had a medical issue. The small town of Vernet-Les-Bains is delightful and the towns people friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed a lovely evening meal at Bistro le Cortal up by the church. The service was friendly and excellent. The four main dishes on the menu gave plenty of choice, fish, duck, steak and a vegetarian option. One family of our party spent a morning at the Spa and reported favourably (budgie smugglers and swimming caps required for men, which caused some hilarity). Villefranche de Confient nearby is especially worth a visit and you can catch le Train Jeune from there with the possibility of open carriages to enjoy the views as it ascends the mountain. There are no downsides if you are looking for a holiday in beautiful Occitanie. We flew from Leeds Bradford to Perpingnan. A two hour fifteen minute flight. Then hired cars for the one hour drive down to Vernet Les Bains, while others arranged private coach transfer without difficulty. We ranged in age from one year to seventy four. As we live in different parts of the UK it was great to catch up as a family. Highly recommended hiring, host and area.

Bell Ringers visiting Vernet-les-Bains

18 of us, using 11, all en-suite rooms. Accommodation worked well with 2 sitting rooms. We used one for people who wanted to be quiet, the other, attached to the dining room for evening games. The host set the dining room up for us so we could all eat at one long table. Large, well equipped kitchen made self catering easy. Nearby good resturants and bars.

Everything completely exceeded expectations - the house, location, amenities and Martin's responsiveness and generosity. Martin very kindly allowed us to arrive early and to leave mid afternoon, excellent communication, nothing was too much trouble. There were 16 of us - 6 parents, 4 grown up offspring and their partners plus two children aged 7 and 11. Everyone had an absolutely fantastic time. Something for everyone.Thoughtfully restored ex hotel with comfortable spaces to gather and quiet areas to retreat to. Kitchen was really well equipped for large groups with 2 x 5 ring gas cookers, 2 big ovens, big pans, bowls, as well as industrial sinks. Masses of space to eat inside and out. Expected to eat out more but ease of cooking meant we ate at home mostly.Weather was hot so we made the most of the huge 9mx5m pool and barely had time for the pool table or table tennis but good to have the choice. It was 3 mins walk to the square with boulangeries, gelato, music and dancing in the evening. Interesting strolls around this historic village/small town and more strenuous walks up from the house into the surrounding hills/mountains for stunning views and river swimming. It was really liberating having so much on the doorstep without having to drive and only a short drive to ancient towns, forts, monasteries and abbeys, plus 'le trein jaune'. Perfect! Absolutely loved it. Planning our return. Thanks so much Martin.

Beautiful Place in Beautiful Vernet-les-Bains

Our extended family group (2 families + grandparent+visiting friends) had a fabulous stay at Martin's holiday home. The children in our group loved the pool and spent hours in it, while the adults especially enjoyed breakfasts and dinners in the beautiful garden, all accompanied by the sound of fresh running water from the mountains. The many bedrooms are lovely and comfortable, the kitchen is large and a joy to cook in, and, again, the garden is idyllic. Martin himself is a fantastic host, kind and thoughtful, and he went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. (He even pleasantly tolerated the children advising him to install a water park in the yard, an arcade in the house, etc. The adults did not agree with this advice.) The area has many attractions, including hikes, markets, beautiful nearby towns, vineyards, waterfalls, and more. A day trip to Collioures to swim in the Mediterranean was easy and fun, too. We did so many things in our two weeks, and Martin's historic hotel was the perfect home for us while we did them. We all highly recommend staying here and would ourselves love to do so again. Thank you, Martin!

Parfait

Merci Martin! Nous recommandons ce logement

Great stay in the Pyrenees

Plenty of space and a well equipped property for our extended family of 24, covering 4 generations. Martin was very helpful in ensuring a ground floor room for my 92 year old mother who can't manage stairs. Everything was satisfactory. The property is an easy walking distance to shops and cafés. A very pleasant two weeks. Thank you Martin
