Total seclusion!! Cute, cozy 2 bedroom cottage nestled in a bush setting. In the evening you can listen the native Kiwi & Morepork living in bush opposite the cottage and wake up to abundant birdsong, in this peaceful rural environment. We have everything you need to make your stay comfortable plus no noise, no traffic, no people, no light pollution, no cell phone coverage, a great get away from urban life, a chance to reconnect with nature and de-stress and recharge and experience farm life, for the curious.

rural hideaway

We spent a wonderful night with a brilliant sky and sounds of nature (kiwis?). We met the host in the morning when we left. His cattle behaved very politely and let us pass. We found fresh milk, butter and bread. Thank you! We would like to come again.

Retro seclusion

We had a wonderful time at Hutiwai Hideaway. It is a lovely secluded spot amongst farmland and native bush. Just what we needed to decompress from a busy time and get away from it all. The house had everything you needed, with lovely retro furnishings and newly updated kitchen. The location is excellent for visiting the 3 sisters and Elephant rock and we were treated to a short stroll down the road to see some glow worms on the owners property by a little waterfall. We had a lovely time and would definitely go back again.

Unique and pure New Zealand farm life

We really enjoyed our stay. You’re surrounded by pure country life with cows as your neighbours. We would call it rustic with all the comforts of home. The location is beautiful and the night sky full of stars. Our host was efficient and friendly. Very unique and memorable:)

Country break

Lovely retreat away from city life, light and noise. Weather was warm, no wind and felt like a late summer. Great spot for coastal exploring and walking.

Beautiful retro home

A gorgeous retro home surrounded by bush. Very private and comfortable, with lovely touches such as fresh cows milk in the fridge. Highly recommend!

Cosy retro cottage a treat

What a nice cosy little cottage. Loved the retro touches, especially the art works. Clean and with comfortable beds. Such a quiet peaceful place to have a little recharge. Thanks so much

Absolutely amazing

We absolutely loved staying, loved the style, the warmth, being out in the middle of no where. Just breath taking views. Would definitely love to come back again

Lovely escape

We throughly enjoyed our stay and experience in this quiet little town. The self guided glow worm trail on the farm was lovely and our stay couldn't have been any better!
