Barbwire bach is over looking Opunake Lake with beautiful views and amazing sunsets.
It's walking distance in the main beach and around the corner to Opunake town ship. And river swimming hole short distance walk around the lake.
We have kayaks available free of charge.
There is a gym available and 1 on 1 training sessions. With New Zealand Heavyweight champion James Langton. Plus, push bikes available. we have it all. Guarantee kids will love this location,
Money from Barbwire bach go towards Barbwire boxing for travel and gear for amateur boxer from Opunake.

House was awesome, Host was communicative, view was amazing with the lake, boxing gym had pretty much all you'd need living room was big as well. Only thing i would say is remember to close windows due to the amount of mosquitoes there is at night because of the lake but spiders we're doing their part well in controlling them. Close to town so everything is in walking distance. Would definitely book again.

Short stay in peaceful bach with private views of lake

Pleasant stay at the barbwire bach. Stayed only one night but wished we could’ve stayed for longer. Typical kiwi bach feel to the place.

A hidden gem!

Amazing in every way! I never knew Waverley was so beautiful. The views were magic and the accommodation a 10/10. I would recommend this stay for family, friends of all age groups. Thank you!!!

Opunake Gem

Barbwire Bach has everything you need to enjoy its location with the added bonus of having access to their boxing gym. The kids absolutely loved it. Overlooking Opunake Lake and with the beach an enjoyable 3 minute walk away - or longer if the kids want to climb the pohutukawa trees and play on the playground, I have no hesitation in recommending Barbwire Bach and hope to stay again.

Great place to stay

Wake up to view across the lake. And a stroll to the surf. Right on the loop walking track, kids (and adults) kayaked, surfed and walked the town tracks. Lots to hinden gems also in the area, the hill top garden, make sure you also check it out at night, it's magical, great local artists to check out, and pihama lavender farm. Nice and relaxed place to stay with family, and our son enjoyed a boxing lesson with James. Can cook if you want or just walk around the corner and you are in the town centre.

beach bach as it is

great 4 nights at barbwire bach. this is how a bach should be. everything we needed. clean beds. plenty of towels.kitchen had what we needed. BBQ had gas. My only comment would be to upgrade outdoor furniture on back deck. nice area to sit in the evening but felt the furniture very weathered and old and not really safe. apart from that, we will be back without the family. Just nana and poppa for a quiet weekend. Very accomodating Host.

Property Management

Not a good look on arrival with lawns not mowed. Beds still being made up on arrival when it was clearly agreed on the booking in time. Property had been double booked when clearly it had been paid for, before 2nd booking made. Overal management of property booking very unprofessional.

Do not stay here

Please do not stay here, dishonest host.There was no flat access for my 85 year old mother when the host said there was. The whole time we were there she had to climb up 2 very steep stairs so it was lucky that there was 2 of us to help her. The place was filthy dirty. There is a boxing gym attached to the so called bach, so i suspect it used to be the boxing club rooms. There is an unlocked door only to the boxing gym and the house. Its obvious that the toilet in the house would be shared by people doing boxing classes on mondays and wednesday nights which then gives them full access to the house. We had no wifi, hence my elderly mother could not watch tv nor could we use our phones. The beds were uncomfortable and 2 of the duvees had stains on them. The bathroom was appalling, dirty shower tray, bits of mat thrown over dirty floors. The toilet is stained. We couldnt open the windows in our room as a botched paint job has been done through the place and glued the windows shut. One of the bedrooms has no door handle and all the doors in the house and the 'Toilet' and 'No Exit' signs make it clear that this place was once a club room. The balcony out the back was covered in bird pooh so we had to wear our shoes. You wouldnt sit on the outside chairs because you would fall through them and with a big drop over the balcony with a low wall it would be very unsafe for small children. Honestly there was lots more wrong. I have submitted a complaint to Book a Bach.

Cozy Stop off

Cozy spot with a nice view over the lake. Pretty well stocked with everything we needed. Very comfy bed with crisp clean sheets. Couple of very effective heaters kept us nice and warm. Boxing gym was active when we arrived but barely noticeable and cleared out pretty early so was never an issue.

Loved the generous supply of fluffy towels. Proximity to lake and walks.

We were quite surprised by a Quite delapidated, early last century Scout Hall, (Nailed down carpet pieces, broken window, toilet lid, meagre kitchen supplies, no freezer compartment for ice) and would at best describe it a time travel adventure into early last century, NZ. No R&R place. It would have been fair to mention that the attached Gym hall is active every night, rocking the whole building or blasting out loud music.
