A comfy, colourful and airy delight, The Lights House is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom Whakatane accommodation ready to host your summer days basking in the sun, with the sand and sea less than a one-minute wander from your front door.

The Lights House is well-equipped with all the essentials for easy holiday living, including a fully equipped kitchen for delicious holiday meals, a Smart TV with Freeview for relaxed nights indoors, and the must-have WiFi on hand for posting holiday snaps.

In summer, imagine a cold drink out on the sundeck, dinner sizzling away on the BBQ, the family playing a card game, all with the sea view as a backdrop. What more does your holiday need?

We were a part of 4 adults and we found the home clean and tidy and comfortable. It felt safe enough that we could leave bedroom windows open at night. It seemed that the home was situated at the safest end of the beach with lots of activity, eg: there was a coffee cart arrived every morning at approx. 9am and a surf school operating, so lots of coming and going. Then there were large numbers of campervans using the parking facilities next door to camp overnight. It was so enjoyable to be so close to the beach and be able to go for walks, and also walks into the village to visit a cafe if needed. We visited at the end of October and it was a bit too cold for any of us to swim, but there were people in swimming. Handy to the shopping in Whakatane and numerous walks. Also there was a craft market to go to on the Sat morning. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Impossible to contact

Prior to booking, I confirmed whether covid would impact the refund policy for this property (stated as no refunds within 60 days of the day commencing) and was assured if we couldn't travel due to covid, we would be taken care of by either refund or transfer of dates. As it happened, my wife and I were both close contacts of a confirmed case, and government guidelines saw us needing to isolate and not travel. I messaged the property the morning we found out, to let them know and ask what we could do in that situation. No response. After our isolation period was over, I messaged again. No response. I've messaged a third time, in an attempt to ensure we haven't kissed goodbye to $2000 for nothing, in spite of the assurances of the property. With an ongoing absence of any communication, I've contacted my bank for a charge back of the credit card transactions. Although we sadly didn't stay at the property in spite of having looked forward to it for months, the interaction with the property manager has been abysmal - look elsewhere for your stay, as you never know when you'll need their help, and there are some good ones out there.
