Stairway to Haven is located in Highland Park, a historic and iconic cottage community just up the hill from Grand Haven State Park. With cottages dating back to the early 1900's, Highland Park has been a popular vacation destination for over a century.

Stairway to Haven is situated on a wooded dune and just a short walk from beach access. The cottage is close to everything Grand Haven has to offer while still offering peace, quiet, and serenity to its guests. It is not unusual to see deer and other wildlife meandering around just behind the property.

Take a short stroll to the beautiful sandy beaches just down the hill, or make the quick trip into Downtown Grand Haven to have dinner, do some shopping, or take in the famous Musical Fountain.


INSIDE THE HOUSE
This air-conditioned home has four bedrooms and one bathroom and half bath in the laundry area (basement), a fully stocked kitchen, spacious living room, and porch areas as well as outdoor sitting areas behind the property and on the side of the house. Two parking spaces are provided.

*Please note that this property is at the top of the hill and there are many stairs (100) to climb to get to the home*

SLEEPING
The cottage sleeps 6 people total which is the maximum occupancy allowed by the city.

EATING
There is a small dining room table in the kitchen that seats 4, and a larger one in the dining room area off the living room that seats 6 people.

PARKING
There are two angled marked parking spots.

THE LOCATION
Highland Park sits across the street and up the hill from Grand Haven State Park. The house is located in the back of the community. Note the property is only accessible by steps up from the parking area.

CANCELLATION POLICY
- Cancel within 48 hours of making your reservation at no charge.
- Cancel 14 days or more in advance, and receive a full refund.
- Cancel 7 days in advance, and receive a 50% refund.
- No refunds for cancellations less than 7 days in advance of reservation start date.

There are no refunds for early departures, reduction of nights rented, or delayed arrivals due to inclement weather or any other factor. Please consider trip insurance to protect your investment.

This property is locally managed by BVW Unsalted Vacations Property Management in Holland, MI. We provide a starter kit of paper products, toiletries, hospitality-grade linens and much more.

Close to the beach, a lot of stairs (like 70) to get up to the property, there is a tram for part of the way but definitely not for seniors who need accessibility. Pretty surroundings.

Great location, easy walk to the beach. The stairs were not as difficult as I thought they might be. House was clean. Beautiful porch. Well stocked kitchen. Bedrooms were smaller than I expected, and there is hardly any closet/dresser space. Overall, good experience and would stay there again.

Enjoyable except for: Toilet trouble in the basement. Gas line to fireplace should be checked. Smoke detector was going off due to low battery. Tv in bedroom had dead batteries in the remote. Outdoor fire table had sap all over it.

Staying in a tree house

Unique experience staying in a tree house with a boardwalk to the beach. Family loved it. The deer wandering through the property made it a camping like experience. Only drawback was that I didn't know about all the stairs and would have packed lighter.

Guys weekend

Place is awesome, everything is just as it looks in the pictures. The only knock is the access from parking and the road... it's a hike up stairs up the hill. Besides the stairs, it wass awesome, we had a fantastic time and zero problems with anything. Check in and check out very easy and clear.

Great Place In the Trees

Definitely an adventure!

Although we were aware of the stairs to the house, we were not aware of the additional climb to get to the house. Luckily we are an athletic family!! We loved it, the area is beautiful and so perfectly located nestled in the woods with the beach very close. Definitely one of the best vacations we’ve taken. The only item I would note is it is in desperate need of a deep, clean, the windows are very dirty. With a bit of TLC the house would be absolutely perfect.

Grand Haven

Similar to others' experiences with the odor of the house. No Wi-Fi after first day (did not report, just used cell phones). Stairs are slippery when wet and some are loose and wobble. The house was well appointed, and couch on porch was very comfortable.

Good for a beach stay

The place was very cute. The neighborhood was beautiful. There were some things I did not like about the place but if you just want the closeness to the beach it works. A service to help get your stuff to the house would have REALLY helped. I exercise 3 times a week and was not ready for all those stairs like I assumed I would be. Plus was worried about the kids falling down the hills since there were no safety rails on the walkway besides just the handrail. There was no lock on the 1 bathroom in the house so with small children it can be a pain. Plus the shower curtain hangs into the tub so you kind of step on while in the shower. But the bathroom that was in the downstairs washing machine area which you have to go outside and down more stairs had a lock. Also you can hear everything in the house but I guess that is to be expected when it is just wood walls. We also had to buy extra fans to get some air in the bedrooms because of the heat and it was only in the 60's when we went. Some instructions on how to run that particular dishwasher and the coffee machine would have been nice since it had a built in grinder which most people are not use too. Parking was hard if you have a truck. We did really like all the deer we seen and there are plenty of places to eat or just go explore down there. Be the house was furnished nice and the beds were more comfortable than I expected. And when we did call with issues they were super easy to get ahold of.

Grand Haven - Access to Beach

This property was spacious and located conveniently to the beach. There are a lot of stairs - so beware if you're packing a lot of stuff. Unfortunately, the property wasn't cleaned when we checked in. The property manager was available and quickly had a crew come out to fix the problem and apologized for the inconvenience. It's an older home and after a heavy rain, the roof leaked in one room. The property is in the woods. Unfortunately, there was a persistent skunk smell - hopefully that can be taken care of.

Difficult to find. Once there, the home was exactly like it was in the pictures. Close to the beach. Quiet neighborhood.

Warning: Must be in good shape and no small kids

Marketing should have disclosed that there are over 100 steps to get to the property up a cliff and the railing is completely open so kids can fall thru and get seriously injured.
