Stayed 2 nights in the Redwood cabin in January. Needed a home base larger than a motel room while visiting family in Rhinelander. Yes , I understood this to be an older northwoods cabin I but I expected more given the reviews and the rate per night, especially in the off-season. Would not return.
Pros: Cabin was clean, communication with owner good, close proximity to Rhinelander. Looks like an OK place for a summer stay.
Cons: Musty smell throughout cabin, masked by a few Glade Plug-ins. Maybe not a big deal in summer when the windows can open, but unpleasant in the winter. The nice screened porch in the photos is unheated, making it unusable in winter.
Mice very active in bedroom walls both nights. Did not see any in living areas of cabin.
Items that were not provided that should be, especially for short rental periods, include dish soap, hand soap, bath towels. Bring your own, I guess. Polyester sheets and no blankets on beds, just bedspreads. DVD player was inoperable during our visit. WiFi is accessible in the main lodge, but not in the cabin. Check-in procedure was unclear. No key provided, though I didn't ask for one. Did not meet the owner.
I think the place is likely fine in the summer when the lake (a couple hundred feet away), the beach, fishing, etc. are the focus of the stay. It's just not set up for winter guests in my opinion.
