We had a wonderful stay at the Whio Retreat. The house was lovely and there were lots of fun activities to do. Ruby was so helpful and accommodating. We will definitely book again.

Perfect for a family get together and so awesome that pets are allowed we had some great walks just at the back door.The pool was amazing even in October and the spa an added luxury. Communication with the host was perfect she catered for all our needs.

Ruby was great. The place was spacious and well appointed. We had a lovely time with family. With Turangi close by....it was easy to pop over for supplies when required.

Great location and house is big enough for 2 families without feeling like you’re on top of each other. Having a games room with pool table was awesome for the young teens in the group (& adults too!).The property backs onto bushland with the river just behind that - lovely surroundings and lovely nature walk along the river.Property is well equipped with all essentials for your stay. The town centre, which includes NW is 3 min drive way, also a couple of cafes and take seats within same centre, which was super handy.Ruby (owner/host) was AMAZING to deal with.The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is due to heating downstairs in the living area/s. We went in Winter for a Mt Ruapehu snow trip, and downstairs heating is a small fire only so it was freezing until you got the fire going - and then it only would warm up that room, so other rooms were still freezing and the tiled floors in kitchen and bathrooms are like ice.Other than that we enjoyed our stay.

Spacious and all we needed at a great location!

We enjoyed a very comfortable summer holiday at this lovely home. Very spacious and lots of entertainment for the adults and kids alike! It had all we needed and was a convenient location to enjoy a walk/bikeride along the river. You won't regret a stay at The Whio Retreat!

Family snow trip

Great place for our family with older kids and their partners. Close to the mountain for our snow trip. Lots of spaces to chill and the hot tub and 2 fire places were awesome after a day at the snow.

Great plcae

We stayed here while we walked the Tongariro crossing. The place was perfect for the u of us. Plenty of toiles, showers with plenty of got water, a spa that was perfect after the walk.It was nice to be able to leave our rubbish and recycling for the cleaner to take away as this is often a hastle.Thanks fpr the well set up house.

Just Fabulous

This is a great place to stay, right in Turangi and a 15 minute walk to town and supermarket. The house has everything you need, including two bathrooms upstairs ( one ensuit), two seperate lounges downstairs, large dining table which was great for dinners (when it rained and could not use the outside table) and game playing. The pool table was a great bonus and kept the kids entertained as well as the pool and spa. The kitchen had everything you need, plus more. Ruby is a great host and answered any questions in had in a timely manner. Highly recommend this little gem.

Positives: Good communication until the end (see below), roomy living areas, washer/dryer, kitchen/appliances, array of pantry items, hot tub, location (quiet lane in a quiet neighborhood near market/gas/restaurants/pharmacy), near the river, and about half an hour to Tongariro park.Cons: Although some things were in OK condition, lots that were worn/broken/falling apart (curtains, brickwork around the pool, stained chair seats, etc.) and some areas weren’t well cleaned. Some specific issues: a few windows had screens but the house needs way more as it’s stuffy and we didn’t want to open non-screened windows and have bugs come in (fans are provided, but that doesn’t provide fresh cool air); no patio furniture by pool; some products nearly empty (dish soap, body wash); dishwasher racks loose; burnt out light bulb in one of the bedrooms; lights stopped working in a portion of the house, so I messaged hosts but did not get a response (we looked for the breaker panel but couldn’t find it), yet the next day I received what seemed like an automated check-out instructions message, with no mention of the problem I had reached out about. The master bedroom is large, but the other bedrooms are pretty small and cramped; they would probably be fine for kids or for adults with very little luggage, but for couples, there isn’t enough room to comfortably move around, much less be able to have a suitcase open.
