※Limited-time offer: up to 38% off for extended stays. —now is the perfect time to visit.
In the quiet countryside of Kyotanabe, Kyoto — known as the birthplace of Japan’s finest Gyokuro tea — stands Fugenji Itoutei, a two-hundred-year-old heritage estate, lovingly preserved and reborn as a private retreat.
Once home to a tea merchant family who helped introduce Japanese tea to the world in the Meiji era, the house remains a living harmony of architecture, craft, and nature.
Designed by architect Fumihiko Sano, the bath pavilion opens to a private courtyard, creating the feeling of a secluded open-air onsen. As you soak, the scent of tatami and cypress mingles with the still air from the surrounding tea fields — acclaimed as the most beautiful in Japan.
Guests may deepen their stay through curated cultural experiences: a seasonal dinner prepared by a visiting chef, a private tea ceremony hosted by a Omotesenke master, or a hands-on chasen (tea whisk) workshop in the nearby artisan village of Takayama.
Located just thirty minutes by car from Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka, Fugenji Itoutei offers a rare opportunity to slow down — to listen, taste, and breathe within the rhythm of Japan’s tea culture.
Limited-time offer: up to 38% off for extended stays.
An invitation to rediscover tranquility, where heritage and nature meet in quiet perfection.
