Beach Information:
The 2 main beaches closest to the house are Scarborough and Wheeler (aka Sand Hill Cove) State Beaches. Both are a little over a mile from the house. They are free to access if you just walk onto the beach, but you will need to pay to park. Parking Rates at the State Beaches are: $12/daily weekdays or $14/daily weekends, or $60 for season parking pass. The line to enter the parking lot can be incredibly long at times. It is worth planning ahead and getting in line early! We are also a half mile from the Pt. Judith Lighthouse and Camp Cronin. Camp Cronin has a nice small sandy beach that sits just inside the break wall (meaning there are no waves at this shoreline). It is free to park in the lot and just walk onto the beach. The break wall is also a fun place to do some fishing and/or crabbing.)
*There are countless additional RI beaches to explore. Check out "Southcountyri" or "Visitrhodeisland" websites if you would like more beach ideas/suggestions.
The house is located within walking distance to the stunning lighthouse and some of Narragansett's best coastlines, restaurants, and pubs including Ocean Road Bistro, Spain Restaurant, Matunuck Oyster Bar, Famous Aunt Carrie's, Iggy's, and the Bon Vue Tavern.
Also, check out Back Beach, an eight minute walk, for fishing, swimming (no lifeguard or facilities), and some of the most spectacular views of the ocean that you will ever see.
A quick run or bike brings you to either Sand Hill Cove (great for young children and children of any age) or Scarborough Beaches with big waves, each a two minute car ride from the house; both with lifeguards, bathrooms, and snack bars...or pop open a beach chair at the rocky break, one block from the house where you can watch the sun rise, wade in the water to look for seashells, and maybe see some ocean animals.
Whale watching, a trip on the Block Island Ferry, or deep sea fishing is only five minutes away in Galilee. A twenty minute car ride brings you to world famous Newport for shopping, dining, and yachting.
