If you're looking for a wildlife-focused Hill Country getaway, the BlueBird Cottage in Tarpley is your perfect vacation cabin! It's a brand-new rental home on 20 acres of wildlife-exempted property; that means the land is set up specifically to support native animals and birds. On top of all that, it's also within a half hour's drive of the Hill Country and Lost Maples State Natural Areas. Here's a quick overview of the birds you'll see at the (the aptly-named) BlueBird Cottage: vividly-colored painted buntings, cardinals, bluebirds, black half chickadees, and vermilion flycatchers, among many others. Deer, turkeys, kit foxes, and other species visit the grounds regularly, too. There are tons of bird feeders, and seating around them, for optimal viewing. There's also a 3/4-mile hiking trail on the property, as well as tree swings to enjoy. While small pets are allowed, they must not interfere with the wildlife.
