Summary:
Retreat to the water’s edge at this freshly remodeled lakefront home. Beautifully decorated featuring lofted ceilings in kitchen area and plenty of windows to soak in the view. Enjoy the the sunrise over the water from the screened in porch while you sip your morning coffee. Unwind in the hammocks as you watch the kids fish from the kayaks.
The Space:
This 3 bedroom 2 bath home has been beautifully remodeled in 2023. It’s located on a large waterfront lot down a quite country road. This is the perfect place to relax in a peaceful, private setting situated among the trees.
As you walk through the door you’ll notice the tall lofted ceilings and stunning lake views. Kick your feet up and enjoy the nicely appointed furniture and décor. Upstairs is large yet cozy with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and an open eat in kitchen and living room area.
The upper deck is our favorite spot to grill out and relax in the rocking chairs overlooking the water.
A hardwood staircase takes you downstairs into the basement where you’ll find the 3rd bedroom, the second bathroom, laundry room, and den. The large sectional with recliners is where you’ll want to spend your evenings enjoying your favorite streaming services. Outside, you’ll find the lower screened-in covered patio. It’s a great place to beat the heat while you sit in the rocking chairs and enjoy the view.
At the end of the drive sits a fully finished shed that is stocked with fun games and activities. There’s plenty of space for your group to enjoy your favorite drinks, throw darts, toss corn hole and play a few games of poker. Open up both of the overhead doors and enjoy the breeze that flows through. Out back of the shed there’s a fire pit with overhead string lights in a secluded area away from the house.
When you're ready to hit the water, grab the fishing poles and head down the path at the bottom of the lot. The kayaks await for you to explore this fantastic fishing hole! It is rocky and may be difficult to navigate for some. If you are looking for easier access to swim Laurel Branch Campground and public beach is a local favorite. You can also rent a boat from Nicks Boat Dock and explore the lake at your leisure. If you'd like to bring your own boat give them a call and ask about their slip rentals.

You have access to the entire home and shed except for the locked closet which store our extra linens and such.
The Neighborhood:
Whippoorwill Cove is situated in the heart of Rough River. You will be a short drive from restaurants, golf courses, boat ramps, public beaches and grocery stores. A gravel road off a quite street leads you to the to cottage. Retreat from it all and spend your time tucked away in the forest. Wildlife is plentiful in the area. It’s common to see deer, turkey, foxes and much more. The large yard offers plenty of privacy and room to roam.
Getting Around:
Lakeside Retreat is the first home on the right as you come down the gravel road. Look for the long row of evergreen trees leading to the driveway marked by a large wooden sign. There is plenty of parking at the home for family and friends. A turnaround is located at the end of the street.
The turn into the driveway can be a little tight for a full sized vehicle but still very manageable. We find that it is easiest to back in and turn around in the driveway. Trailers can be difficult to manage if you're not experienced towing one.

Other Things to Note:
Please note that Rough River Lake has variable water levels throughout the year. The water level typically reaches summer pool in April and stays there until October 15. The water level is much lower from late October until early spring. There are still plenty of lake activities to enjoy while the water is at winter pool. Some of our guests enjoy fishing, hiking the banks, metal detecting, canoeing and kayaking to name a few. If you’d like to spend some time in the lake bed please make sure you stay below the “red line” which is marked by red paint on some of the trees. Anything below the “red line” is considered government property and intended for public use.
We ask that guests keep noise levels down for the neighbors after 10 pm.
Please care for our cabin as if it were your own.
If you are trailering a boat please note that it can be difficult to turn around on our road. Call Nicks Boat Dock for accommodations.
The Wi-Fi is a hotspot with limited high speed internet, unfortunately it’s the best we can get for this area. At high speeds it can be used for streaming or working, at low speeds it may not suffice.
