Modern basement-level apartment in a historic bungalow in downtown Bellingham

We are a skip, hop and jump from the best of the city – whether it’s the bay and farmers market or great restaurants, shops and craft breweries.

Inside, you’ll find a newly renovated abode with sunlight, modern design and an electric fireplace. Extra touches? Check! We have a coffee bar, board games, washer/dryer and a heated bathroom floor.

* Please note: Main floor of our home is rented out as a separate unit. And as this is a basement-level apartment, our ceilings aren’t super high and there is potential that you may hear some foot steps. See the “Other things to note” section for more details.

CENTRAL BELLINGHAM LOCATION
Downstairs guest suite is centrally located in downtown Bellingham, Washington, which is an outdoorsy city on a scenic bay where people come to get outdoors.

We are five blocks from the popular Bellingham Farmers Market and a 15-minute walk to Bellingham Bay. Here, check out Waypoint Park which is leading the city’s waterfront redevelopment efforts with beach and grassy areas, beautiful landscaping, a steel art installation and a bmx track! You’ll also have easy access to all the hiking and mountain biking trails that run through – and surround – the city.

From our apartment, walk to cool craft breweries, local shops and some of the city’s best restaurants – all within a few blocks. In fact, Aslan Brewing Co. and the Community Food Co-op are one block away while two blocks down the road is N State Street which is a hub of activity. Take your pick of fresh seafood restaurants or enjoy one of these cuisines: Mediterranean, Italian, Mexican, German, Cajun or Peruvian (we love Cafe Rumba!).

And beyond Bellingham, many awe-inspiring wonders of the Pacific Northwest are near. The alpine dream of North Cascades National Park is an hour and a half away. As is Mount Baker where you can ski everything from green to double black diamond runs. We are just inland from the famous San Juan Islands where adventures of all kinds abound – from sailing and whale watching to golfing, horseback riding and farm visits. And for some big town buzz, the seaport city of Vancouver is just an hour north.

ARRIVAL
You will access Downstairs guest suite through our fenced backyard, via a gate with a keypad/lockbox that is just for this unit (the upper unit has a separate gate). Walk along the sidewalk on the right side and go down seven stairs to reach the apartment door.

LIVING ROOM
Once inside, you’ll be welcomed by our open-concept apartment that’s light and modern – and more airy than you’d think. To the left is our living room which revolves around a mid-century modern sofa. Cozy up here, whether for drinks after your day’s adventures or a movie marathon as the fireplace is aglow. You can also get out board games for friendly competition around the coffee table. A gray armchair, black-and-white rug and colorful mountain artwork round out the Pacific Northwest vibe in here.

KITCHEN & DINING AREA
Our kitchen is straight back from the entry door, full of white cabinets and ceramic subway tile. Natural light filters in through a window above the sink while dimmable recessed lighting lets you control the ambience. Enjoy granite countertops, all-new stainless steel appliances and everything you need to make a delicious meal. We also have your coffee needs covered – a coffee pot, Keurig, K-Cup pods, sugar and creamer included.

Speaking of coffee, our dining area is the place to settle down with a cup (or two). More windows abound here and the seating is lovely: A circular table is joined by black ‘50s-inspired chairs and a striking modern bench. But our favorite design touch? A mini gallery wall with an orange print that says “This must be the place.” Indeed!

2 BEDROOMS
A cheerful bedroom with a queen bed is located off the living room. Rest easy among a picture window that brings in sunlight and a comfy bed with a green velvet headboard. A throw pillow and abstract art add fun pops of color. And bedside tables and lamps make you feel more at home.

Our other bedroom is located off the kitchen and comes with a king bed with a tufted faux leather headboard. A green accent wall that recalls a Northwest forest is decorated with woven baskets and modern black and glass sconces. This room also has a picture window and a closet for your belongings.

It’s worth noting: Our bedroom windows look out to a bamboo garden that’s fenced off for your privacy. And while the photos don’t show it, our bedroom windows (and all windows in the apartment) come with Roman shades.

1 BATHROOM
A full bathroom is by the second bedroom. It has a modern white vanity, radiant heated floors and a tiled shower. There’s also a porcelain bathtub so you can take soothing bath soaks following a day of walking, hiking, biking and more. We’re also happy to provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash and bathing salts for you.

As our basement-level apartment has lower ceilings, we can accommodate anyone 6’1” and under.

UPSTAIRS UNIT
Another rental unit is located on the main floor of our bungalow. This unit has its own backyard gate and property entrance. Guests of this unit have exclusive access to the backyard, patio and front porch.

QUIET HOURS
Thank you for observing quiet hours between 10:00 pm and 9:00 am. This ensures the peace of the house and our standing as courteous neighbors.

SMOKING
To keep our apartment fresh and clean for all, smoking is not permitted inside or anywhere on the premises. If evidence of smoking is detected, a $400 fee will be applied to your reservation.

PARTIES & EVENTS
Gatherings with your group are great, but parties and events are not allowed. Any evidence of such will result in an $800 fee and an immediate termination of your booking. Thank you for your understanding as we strive to keep the guest suite in wonderful shape for all guests to come.

You have private access to Downstairs guest suite and all amenities during your stay. Our backyard is fully enclosed separated by a row of bamboo plants. A portion of the back yard is for the upper unit and another portion for the lower unit. You can access the apartment any time with our secure, keyless entry.

We have a digital keyless entry that will have a personal access code programed to work for the duration of your stay. I am available through the app if you have questions or need help with anything.

Downstairs guest suite is located in the heart of downtown Bellingham, Washington. We are a short distance to the scenic bay, Bellingham Farmers Market and charming restaurants, shops, craft breweries and more. In fact, bustling N State Street is just two blocks away. Beyond Bellingham, we are inland from the San Juan Islands; an hour from Vancouver; and an hour and a half from Mount Baker and North Cascades National Park.
