Wonderful Visit

Loved the location. Surrounded by water, cows, beauty. Very comfortable home. Great views from every window, especially "the whiskey room." Check out was a bit early - but it worked out for us. Nearby villages are nice - good restaurants and a grocery store. Lots of paths to walk/hike from the house. 3 bathrooms was key for our group of 6 people. Very relaxing. A highlight of our trip.

Fantastic Adventure

The cottage was everything we hoped it would be. It was beautiful and had plenty of space for all six of us. We enjoyed the sun room for our morning coffee with a great view of the countryside and wildlife. We enjoyed the kitchen and living room for coming together after a great day of exploring. The cottage is in a good location for day trips like going to Galway, Connemara, Cliffs of Moher, Fanore beach and local treks along the Flaggy Shore, Kinvara and Ballyvaughan. We had a fantastic time in a magical country.

Wedding on the West Coast of Ireland

Fabulous cottage!! Location is great..overlooking Galway Bay...Gerry was a great host..all my questions were answered promptly..Ideal spot for long scenic country walks through the neighboring farms and picturesque coastal shoreline...You will love the cows, horses, and hares nearby...Linalla Creamery is up the road for some delicious ice cream...Close to Ballyvaughn, and Kinvarra...We had a relaxing, wonderful vacation in beautiful Ireland...I highly recommend this lovely cottage...

The “real Irish” experience!

Beautiful, peaceful home in a small Irish village. What a wonderful experience! Gerry & Helen are lovely, kind & generous. If you are looking for a truly Irish experience, I highly recommend visiting this cottage. We walked everyday. We gathered seashells & talked for hours as a family. We were in close proximity to many activities including kayaking, inis island & Cliffs of Moher tour, working dog demonstration, Galway & Hazel Mountain chocolate factory! The Real Ireland - Wonderful!

Heron Cottage is a welcoming and delightful blend of warmth, comfort, and Irish hospitality. It was a highlight of our family Christmas holiday and a great base for experiencing the west - the Burren, Galway, Cliffs of Moher, and wonderful villages and friendly locals along the “Wild Atlantic Way.” Helen and Gerry are the best hosts! They are so friendly and charming. Great recommendations for sites, activities, local pubs and dining. They both went out of their way to ensure our whole family had the best time. We truly enjoyed meeting them and their friendly and gentle dog Karla. The cottage features great design and build quality, comfortable furnishings, all the modern conveniences, breathtaking views, and some unexpected luxury touches like the sauna/spa room. The surrounding country roads and trails are great for outdoor activity and the adventure of driving on the left side of the road. It’s a short drive to stock up or enjoy local pubs and restaurants in Kinvara or Ballyvaughan, and there’s a great seafood place (Linnane’s) just about a mile from the cottage. . Imagine days of experiencing the best of Ireland’s west, then coming home to a glass of wine or a pint by the warm fire in a true “home away from home.” That’s what we experienced at Heron Cottage and we loved everything about it. We’re already planning our next visit.

Amazing scenery

Our first trip to the Burren was amazing. The location of the house is spectacular. Fantastic views all around you. The house has a cosy homely feel and the hosts couldn’t have been more welcoming and kind. Highly recommend a trip here. We will definitely be back

Un bout du monde en Irlande

Idéalement situé pour profiter des jeux de lumière irlandaise , du silence .. du vol des oiseaux et de la douce musique du vent ... peu importe les fréquentes averses car elles subliment les couleurs . Randonnées campagne et mer autour de la maison avant d’aller découvrir d’autres comtés comme le Connemara à proximité. Des hôtes chaleureux qui nous invitent dans une maison à ciel ouvert . Nous reviendrons . Ce fut parfait . Merci .

peaceful residence in the nature

excellent residence as you are looking for a way to step out of the stress in the middle of nowhere. You can plan excursions, as you are well informed by the owners. Very nice and practical kitchen. Just wifi could be better.

Great Cottage for Exploring the West of Ireland

The Heron Cottage is a fantastic place to stay for exploring the west of Ireland. We had 5 adults & 2 kids stay in the main cottage, with the 2 kids sharing a double bed & 1 adult in a single bed, which worked for us but if you have that big of a group I’d consider booking out the attached 1 bedroom unit as well. The location is ideal for day shots into Galway, the Aran Islands & the Cliffs of Moher. Linnanes is a great spot for food and they’ll do take away orders do you can enjoy back at the cottage. Gerry & Helen are great and we had no issue with the check-in or check-out process. We will be coming back to the Heron Cottage for our next trek back to the Burren.

Superb cottage in the Burren

We recently spent a marvelous week in Heron cottage with another couple. The cottage is well situated on a small peninsula in Galway Bay. The friendly owners met us upon arrival and showed us the cottage and gave valuable tips about what was available in the region. The cottage is very comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen and bedrooms. There is a large fireplace in the living room for those chilly nights. The view over the water is lovely with fantastic sunsets. And, yes, there were herons and other birds. Locally, there is an incongruous ice cream parlor, a nice gallery/café and one of the famous Martello towers to explore. Also, there is a very nice paved walking/cycling path along “The Flaggy Shore” nearby. We had four good dinners at nearby restaurants in Ballyvaughan and Kinvara, including the famous Moran’s on the Weir. The cottage is well positioned for exploring the local sites by car. To the south are the Burren, megalithic sites, the Cliffs of Moher and the small towns of Doolin and Ennis. Ferries from Doolin can take you to the nearby Aran Islands. To the north are Dunguaire castle, Galway and the wilds of Connemara. All in all I think you would be hard pressed to find a better place to stay in this region. We left with many great memories and will always remember the delightful owners. By the way, if you encounter the owner’s dog, Clara, she will be your friend for life if you rub her tummy!

Spacious, scenic and peaceful

Heron Cottage is a lovely, comfortable house in a beautiful, rural setting. Cows grazed nearby, and a mare and her foal munched grass in the garden. I enjoyed a morning run along the Flaggy Shore, and we all took long rambles through the countryside. It was a short drive to some charming villages and pubs, and a longer drive to Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher. We took a ferry to the Aran Islands and also had a wonderful trip to Kylemore Abbey. Excellent meals at Linnane's and Cassidy's. Once the internet was sorted out, we had good access. We were five adults and one 7-yr-old, and all of us enjoyed our holiday. It was a nice mix of relaxation and adventure.

Beautiful property with amazing views. Magical is how my wife describes it

Close to many wonderful attractions like the Cliffs of Moher and in a wonderful area. Gerry and Helen were great hosts and we want to especially thank Helen for her advice on the area, traffic and driving on the left! Londis supermarket only a 15 minute drive into Kinvarra. Had a great lobster meal at Linnanes which was only a few minutes away. Our only regret is we couldn’t spend more time at the Heron House!

Beautiful location but remote

We stayed here for a family break for a week in June. The house is in a stunning location surrounded by beautiful views and with lots of skylights and windows to enjoy the scenery. House is well equipped and the kitchen is great. Hosts were super nice and very helpful. But the property is more remote than we had expected. You need to drive a good 25-30 minutes to t to anywhere to buy food (even bread or milk) and there isn’t a pub that is walkable to unless you are up for a 2 mile walk. On he plus side, the area is outstandingly beautiul and there is lots of nice walking plus a lovely beach and a little gallery cafe that are walkable to. So if you don’t mind being in a remote location you will be set! My only problem with the property is hat WiFi is limited. Our daughter used up our allocated amount accidentally on the first day which was a major drag. Everywhere else we stayed in Ireland had unlimited WiFi so I’m not sure why this was the case but for anyone who really needs WiFi access for work etc - be warned! All else was wonderful.

Perfect Family Getaway!

We rented Heron Cottage for 5 nights for my husband, myself and our two little ones (9 months and 2 years)! It was a perfect spot to unwind! My son liked being so close to the water and we could go for very quiet and scenic walks. The house was perfectly located between Ballyvaughn and Kinvarra. We enjoyed day trips to Galway, Cliffs of Moher, Fanore Beach, Ballyvaughn (Bishop's Quarter Beach)! We also enjoyed just staying around the house and a walk along the Flaggy Shore! The house was perfect for our needs! The owners Gerry and Helen are lovely and very hospitable. They provided a travel cot and our kiddos LOVED running around in the garden! We definitely recommend this property! Thank you for the amazing memories!

lovely secluded Christmas

We enjoyed a lovely Christmas holiday here with extended family. The cottage is in a beautiful location surrounded by the Ocean... somewhat secluded but perfect if you want to relax around an open fire or take long walks in the country. Nearest town for groceries about a fifteen minute drive... There is one pub/restaurant nearby and an art gallery/coffee bar - even within walking distance for the fit. Cottage is well equipped including laundry facility. Wifi comes at an additional cost. Take note that all bedrooms are located upstairs and so the cottage isn't wheelchair accessible. All in all a very nice location to explore the Burren... The locals are very nice and welcoming...

Great home! I would highly recommend it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The home is great and extremely comfortable. It was our base for five nights. The area is beautiful!! I would recommend it and would absolutely return to this home on our next trip. The owners were great and gave us several recommendations on things to do that weren't on our original list. Do not hesitate to rent this home! You will not be disappointed!

Wonderful Stay

This house is just as advertised--maybe better. Spotlessly clean, well equipped, and beautifully situated. We and another couple spent three nights here last week. From this home base we were able to drive all around the Burren, up to Clifden, and into Galway for some great adventures. We enjoyed sunsets walking in this quiet neighbourhood and the freshly-made ice cream from a place down the street was a particular treat. Can't recommend Heron Cottage enthusiastically enough.

near perfect cottage

A group of five women (some friends, some related, aged mid-60s and mid-70s), we thoroughly enjoyed our five night stay in Heron Cottage. The cottage is spacious, perfectly clean, attractively furnished, and has a large, well-equipped kitchen. (A couple appliances could use a repairman: We couldn't get the dishwasher to work, and the big, advertised refrigerator was "down," replaced by a small, just adequate fridge. There's a washing machine but no drier.) Among the great things about the cottage are the windows: Each one, especially the many skylights, offers a different and stunning view. The location is very good for walkers. A short walk up to the ever-tempting ice cream shop takes one to a trail down to the Flaggy Shore, and the 3 K walk along the shore is beautiful and a good place to see area residents out walking dogs and babies. Another, shorter walk is to the Martello Tower. Drives to green road trail heads are fairly short, and (for after the hike!) driving to the excellent Linnane's Lobster Restaurant is easy. We somehow had the idea that a pub was only a short walk away, but we were mistaken in this, but we did well with treats from the ice cream shop. Heron Cottage is a lovely vacation spot.

A great place to connect with family

Our family stayed for one week at Heron Cottage and we had a very relaxing and wonderful time there. We were able to meet many of the locals and they all literally treated us like family. It was a great location to venture out to Cliffs of Moher, Galway and Black Head from. The Flaggy Shore walking trail was a perfect way to start the day and the Russell Gallery was the perfect midpoint to stop for coffee and delicious bakery items. We highly recommend this property to anyone that wishes to explore Ireland.

A lovely house in a sublime location

We have just returned from a two week holiday at Heron Cottage and we fell in love with North Clare. The location of the house was magical - if you love nature and wildlife, this is a dream house. It has gorgeous views on all sides, with the eponymous herons in the water and hares tearing around the fields. The Flaggy Shore is only minutes away and is one of the most beautiful walks we've ever done. From the cottage, you are within very easy reach of lots of local attractions - the Burren for hiking, the Burren perfumery(fabulous), the Birds of Prey centre, Poulnabrone, Fanore for surfing. We had a very warm welcome from Helen (including freslly made brown bread), who gave us lots of local information and advice. There are excellent restaurants and coffee shops within easy reach. Kinvarra Farmers market and local shops were perfect for picking up supplies for cooking and barbequing at the house. We were a group of four adults and three teenagers and found the house very comfortable and well-equipped and had a fantastic time. The North Clare area is very unspoiled - a real hidden gem.
