Thank you for your review. We're glad you found your stay overall enjoyable, but I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t have a 5-star experience when the past 34 guests rated us 5-star. We want to address a few of the concerns you raised. First, our home is in a quiet residential neighborhood as stated in the listing, and out of respect for our long-term neighbors, we ask guests to keep music and voices at a reasonable level—even during daytime hours and strictly after 11pm on weekends. While this may feel restrictive, these guidelines are in place to ensure a peaceful experience for everyone in the area. This was the first time we had multiple complaints with threats to call the police due to the noise level. It was described to us as shrieking and screaming along with music. Unfortunately, sometimes the venue isn’t appropriate for the planned event. Regarding communication, we take pride in being responsive, clear, and respectful with all of our guests. We were surprised to hear your characterization of our messages and regret that you felt they were inappropriate. That certainly was not our intent. We politely asked you to keep the noise down twice via text to avoid further disturbances. Post stay, I sent you a message providing a list of the key highlights of damage and the unfortunate state of our home. Based on your response we started to think you had rented it for your child because of the disconnect. And the name has changed on the reservation. As for the damage claim, we carefully document the condition of the property before and after each stay. We do not charge for normal wear and tear, but when there is clear evidence of damage beyond that, we must take appropriate steps. You acknowledged and accepted a few damages – water stains on walls that we can’t get off, sink strainer being used on the oven and melting the plastic tips over and down the oven, wine stains on the bedroom carpets and outdoor furniture. Driving and parking on the lawn wasn’t acknowledged, but this caused damage to our lawn, concrete corner and walking pavers. In my humble opinion, this is not ‘normal’ wear and tear with a 2-night stay. And I specifically stated in the welcome message not to drive on the lawn, so there was disregard for the rules on day 1. This is a home and you said it only required cleaning that one would expect at a hotel. I don’t think a hotel needs to spend 3 days cleaning and repairing its rooms. There’s a reasonable expectation for how a home should be left, even without detailed instructions for each individual area. Hopefully, we can resolve all the additional damages and ‘wear and tear’ costing us about $6k to rectify and bring it back to its 5-star state for the next guests.
