Loop dit ongelooflijke 6000 m² grote historische huis uit dat in 1905 werd gebouwd en waar ongeveer 50 jaar de commandanten en hun families in Fort Stevens waren gehuisvest. Geniet van moderne voorzieningen, maar verbeelding, ga terug in de tijd en stel u elke kamer 100 jaar geleden voor. De commandantenkamers, de meidenkamers, de kelder "vergaderruimte" wachten allemaal op uw verkenning en plezier. Recreatieve voorzieningen zijn onder andere een breedbeeld-tv en een pooltafel op het lagere niveau, plus gratis draadloos internet. Neem plaats in de gezellige rieten meubels op de elegante afgeschermde veranda om te lezen en kijk uit op het park dat ooit het paradepark van Fort Stevens was. Fort Stevens Museum en de historische omgeving liggen op loopafstand. Mijlen van wandel- en fietspaden zijn in de buurt. De oceaan en het wrak van de Peter Iredale liggen op slechts 3,2 km afstand. Our family of 13 stay was wonderful, loved the vantage history style decor of the home. Anyone that loves history would enjoy staying in this home.

Fun location with plenty of room for our six siblings and spouses reunion. Great walking, exploring from the house. All the equipment needed to prepare meals was provided but also close to the good restaurants in Astoria.

This house is an incredible time machine to the past. It is large and nostalgic and the beds are super comfortable. The location next to the fort is a fantastic feature—so much to do, and always get a front row view to incredible wild life. We’ve stayed many times and always look forward to returning!

Incredible, beautiful, historic house. Grandchildren loved the historical atmosphere and learning opportunity. More than enough to accommodate the size of our group. You even get a modern workout going from the basement to the upper floor accommodations, lol. Plenty to do and see from the Fort Steven's Battery to the local wildlife visiting outside the front or side entries (Elk herds) The look of amazement on the children's faces made the weekend adventure that much more. Plenty of parking. Convenience store right down the road to get any necessities you might have forgotten. Coffee/tea station was well stocked and ready for service.Truth be told, I really wasn't ready to leave, but all good things must come to an end. If you happen to plan a vacation in the pacific northwest, the Commanders Quarters is a must! History, fun, and adventure all wrapped into one. 5 stars!

Fun place to stay. We enjoyed sitting in the sun on the front porch and gathering in the parlor. Perhaps door locks could be easier to open and close as doors stick.

Just what I'd hoped: lots of history and plenty of space. I was pleasantly surprised by all the good optional amenities - coffee/tea station, kitchen expendables, two fridge/freezers. It made our travel logistics much easier.

Wonderful group home

We loved our stay. The owners representation was spot on and everyone enjoyed the house. The house does have some maintenance issues but they did not impact our stay what so ever. I would definitely come back!

Unique stay in a beautiful place!

Staying at this property was a very fun experience for our family (12 adults, 3 kids). The house was HUGE! and we loved the period-decor. It had everything we needed and was a very comfortable stay. The location was excellent. We enjoyed walking access to the Fort and easy access to the beach. Very quiet neighborhood, with great outside space. Close to all the things we wanted to do/see.

Family Fun

Fifteen of us gathered at the Commander’s Quarters. With three floors and a basement, we never felt like we were in each other’s space. The house is charming! We enjoyed the location too— next to the state park trails, Astoria’s farmers market, short drive to the beach. A beautiful place to build memories.

Fun and unique historic house

This house was perfect for Our family gathering. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with cooking utensils and spices. A coffee nook was a fun place to take care of our caffeine needs. There were signs and information posts about the history of the house and Plenty of games. we even had fun moving the “ghost” mannequin around the mansion.

A perfect family reunion home

This is an amazing home! The Victorian furnishings were lovely--we felt as though we had stepped back in time. The kitchen was so well stocked that we never brought in the crock pot, electric griddle or large serving bowls we brought with us. We never ran into the ghost at all (they had filmed an episode of Ghost Adventures featuring this house and it aired on one of the nights that we stayed) but perhaps the happy sounds of a happy family kept the ghost at bat. We all voted to come back here in two years--everyone loved it!

Spacious, interesting, lots of bedroom. Didn't hear from host re protocol when leaving but eventually found old Liston side of fridge. Thought expecting guests to wash linens for 7 beds excessive,- removing sheets should have been sufficient. Photos showing billiard table didn't show dark, musty basement room it was in, with the TV. Liked ccking and dining supplies.

Perfect for our adult reunion

Plenty of room for 13 adult siblings/spouses to gather, eat together, hang out on the porch. Kitchen was well stocked, large pantry with second fridge to stash food, coolers, etc. Saw a lot of elk right around the property. We were worried that there was no air conditioning, but even on the third floor in July, it never got too hot. (100 degrees in Portland, 69 in Hammond.) Enjoyed the period furnishings and the house history. I don't think I would bring small children there, however. Close to Astoria, 25 minutes to Seaside.

Family reunion/fishing trip. Roomy, quiet, comfortable for 12 of us. Made great memories. The home was well equipped, comfortable beds and conveniently located. The weather was great and it was wonderful to walk and visit historical sites, learn about the home and catch some gorgeous sunsets on the wrap around porch with family members. We all agreed it was a 10 out of 10 experience!

The Commodore’s House was a great location for our family gathering. The house is very roomy with plenty of room for everyone. Checkin was super easy and communications with the rental company were great. So much to do from this location at Fort Stevens State Park, Astoria, and the surrounding area. We surely enjoyed our stay in the area much more than Lewis & Clark enjoyed their winter theirs. Would definitely look forward to staying here again.

Nickerson Family reunion.

All the adults loved the home. Plenty of roomd and activities in the area to see and visit. The family said they would like to try for anoth renuion in two years in the same place.

Overall it was great

It was a great experience. The house is old and does have some age related issues, but nothing that distracted from our stay. Obviously no fault of the owner the power went out but they were kind enough to bring lights as the lights were out for 8 hours due to weather.

Step Out of Time

The Commander's House was a pleasant step out of time. Only one clock (in the kitchen), inviting spaces all over the house for conversations, a perfectly delightful kid's corner and a wide open parlour and dining room gave us places to gather as a group and for smaller confabs. The location was ideal for North Oregon Coast adventures. Storms made Dish network unreliable, and the solid construction of the house kept wi-fi to the first floor - part of the charm of "unplugging" for fully half of our group. Stairs, stairs and more stairs reminded us all of the hardiness of our predecessors and of our need to stay in shape. If you're looking for an immersive experience into history with all the conveniences of a well-stocked kitchen and ample bath facilities, this is the place! We loved it and hope to return.

So much to see and do here. Lots of stairs, so may not be good for some. Our group found the painting with the angel in dining room rather offensive, but that’s just us.
