The house is quite lovely, with local charm and character. The pool is wonderful, and the local house manager Tito is extremely helpful and prompt with his communication (albeit in Spanish only, which we did with a Translate app and What's App). The hosts were also very communicative and helpful!
The location definitely requires 4W drive, but we quickly got used to it (as long as there is one driver who's okay with bumpy winding roads, it's fine). The nearby towns are a mix of local flavour and tourist trap, but very little of it feels "resorty".
There are a couple of inaccuracies in the listing. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the property is not 4 bedrooms. At best, it's 3.5, with an open living room with daybed acting as the fourth room. We made this work for us, but ideally it would have been four rooms. Also, the nearby volcanic beach--which is beautiful--is about a 10-minute drive all told, not a 5-minute walk. The other beaches are a longer drive than listed as well. While we love the house, it's got some cracks and some minor disrepair. Nothing major, we all loved the place and it's very charming, and it's far preferable to a pristine resort-like house.
We really loved that the house is isolated, at the peak of a mountain. There seem to be only a couple of other houses on the complex. We saw howler monkeys and coatimundi galore. It was delightful to be surrounded by so much jungle foliage. All in all, we loved our stay! Thanks to the staff and hosts!
