Initially, the apartment looked okay and clean although there were some minor issues. For example, there was very little cutlery and tableware but we could not do the dishes as there was no plug to keep the water in the sink.
The street has several uninhabited houses that are boarded up. The walk to the trolley stop passes through an area with a lot of people loitering around. The area feels unsafe and we would not want to walk here in the evening.
The first night, we were unable to sleep due to the excessive noise the air conditioner in the bedroom ceiling produced. Also, we heard a lot of shouting in the street and breaking glass at night so we felt very unsafe.
We contacted the owner who was on vacation in Italy. He said via WhatsApp that we were not a good match and it was best if we left the apartment the next morning. Then we contacted VRBO and the VRBO customer service agent contacted the owner. VRBO and the owner agreed that we would get a refund of half of the rental sum if we left the apartment before 11 AM, which we did.
From that moment on, the owner will no longer respond to our messages and phone calls. There is no way to contact him so we did not receive a partial refund. VRBO does not want to intervene and will not help us out. Very unprofessional owner that agreed to give us a partly refund but then decides not to cooperate to settle this as agreed upon.
