The Bield is both a charming and quaint detached, dales cottage sitting towards the eastern end of the village overlooking the narrow green. The cottage has been successively renovated and extended over many years and has recently been refurbished to the high standard it now presents. A wood burning stove, separate dining room, sunny patio garden to the front. Footpaths seem to crisscross Wensleydale for miles and from the cottage you can attempt the heights of Addlebrough for breath taking views. Visit nearby Aysgarth Falls, Hardrow Force, Bolton Castle. Travel to Hawes, Skipton, Leyburn, Settle, pass the Ribblehead Viaduct, Sedburgh, Dent or just enjoy Wensleydale in all its glory.
Access is through a walled border garden, with a patio area, to a small entrance porch at the front of the cottage. The porch gives access to a cosy lounge with inset wood-burning stove with classic pine surround and mantel, traditional open beamed ceiling and support post. Through the lounge is a dining room with ample space for family eating and the benefit of a picture window looking towards the green. This in turn leads to a modern, compact but well equipped kitchen with quarry tiled floor and a utility room with laundry facilities, freezer, dishwasher and adjacent toilet.
An open tread pine staircase rises from the dining room to a landing serving three bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, one double and one twin and a bathroom with bath, sprinkler shower, washbasin and toilet.
There is a small, secure garden to the rear of the cottage which can be reached from the road by a wide pathway or by an external door in the utility room. The larger front garden is a pleasant place to sit and enjoy the sunshine, perhaps for alfresco breakfast or lunch in the peaceful air of a small village with little through traffic.
The Bield is a dales cottage of character and distinctive charm which over the years has developed into a family home rather than a small cottage. Much of the original and often quirky features have been retained but it has been decorated and furnished with style, simplicity and modernity sympathetic to its heritage and has all the needs of contemporary life.
