Kauai Family Adventure

Wonderful home

This is a beautiful home with a lanai you never want to leave. Central to everything. The property is clean and well maintained. Also, the kitchen was well stocked with dishes and all the usual items. You can’t go wrong choosing this property.

Slice or Paradise

We loved this house. It was in a great location. 1/2 hour from airport and all major shopping. Close to small town shopping. There was plenty of room for me and my husband and our 3 grown children and significant others. As in previous reviews, it could only be made better by the addition of air-conditioning. Specifically in the garage apartment. It was just too hot. The house does have some wear and tear. But typical of a house on the ocean. We played in the pool every night under the stars. The Milk-Way sat above us. It was the perfect temperature and so magical. There were sea turtles outside the front and even some of the most magnificent rainbows ever seen. A very special trip.

It was a beautiful and comfortable home with all the amenities we are used to. The lanai and backyard were absolutely out favorite place to spend time! We hope to be able to rent again in September 2024 for a wedding we will be attending.

Great Oceanside Location

Great location. Great pool (not heated, but ok in December) and outdoor space. Lots of space inside with comfortable furniture. Sea breezes and fans counteract lack of a/c, although space above garage gets a little warm (even in December). The pool looks very new. The rest of the house is clean and tidy, although the wear and tear of the marine environment is evident in places. We had a great time!

Spring Break Paradise

The Kukuiula Kai was a perfect spot for our group of senior families celebrating spring break. Our two families staying at the house loved getting up every morning sitting on the lanai and drinking our coffee. We saw dolphins, whales, and even a monk seal. Such a relaxing and beautiful location. We will definitely be back.

AMAZING location, Great Indoor Outdoor Living

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: An amazing location in a quiet (other than the roosters!), location away from the bustle of tourists. A wonderful walk to Spouting Horn or the Botanical Gardens or along the path to a close-by shopping area. House was perfect for a large family with great ventilation and lots of room to spread out. Towels and linens were wonderful, garden and pool were lovely and well maintained. House needs some maintenance and being right on the water really takes a toll on things. But rental company very responsive to get things resolved. My only suggestion would be for longer term rentals to include cleaning once weekly in contract.

Best lanai on the South shore!

But what distinguishes this one is the expansive lanai with comfy furniture overlooking the stunning ocean and shaded from the sun. In other words, it is a place you can adore without ever leaving home. And during our early December stay, we saw both t e sunrise and the sunset. Stunning!

Southern Kauai experience

We have been coming to Poipu for 25 years and have stayed many homes along the south coast, the last three years at Kukui'ula Kai. We love the property, amenities and location. Single story, on the water, private pool, lush grounds and sideyards, Hawaiian plantation style furnishings. Relaxing, healing and comfortable.

A wonderful respite

We enjoyed the sound of the crashing waves, swimming in the pool, and walking to the little beach at the end of the street where the locals launched their boats. It was close enough to the Napaali coast and to the Waimea Canyon.

Be careful of the apartment over garage

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: There were three couples and a single in our group, all adults. We all liked the main house very much but the room above the garage was not good. The toilet ran constantly and leaked so you had to physically turn it on and off before using it. There was a note taped to the lid of the toilet saying this, and also that someone would be by to fix it on Monday (we arrived on Friday). The shower was tiny and not very nice. The oven timer came on every morning at 5:00 am and there was absolutely no way to turn it off (all of us tried to figure it out). But the worst part was that nobody came to fix any of the problems, nor would take our calls or call us back, or even return an email! We vacationed there the first week of December and have been trying to contact them since to no avail. We were hoping to receive a little of the $11,000 we paid them back for the inconveniences. We Still haven’t been able to contact anyone. I didn’t want to leave a bad review but that’s the choice they’ve left us. There are many nice properties around there so had we known we’d have these issues, we’d definitely have taken a different one. But if you aren’t going to need the room over the garage, the house was very nice - as long as you don’t need to contact anyone. Hope this review helps others.

Aloha Scott, Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We apologize for the toilet in the guest house being faulty and as a result you needing to turn the valve off between uses. We have not heard of the oven timer issue and have taken a look to see what can be done to fix it. While you were here we sent our handyman after you called our office and spoke to us about it and at the time he could not get the right part to fix it as it is an older model toilet. After you departed you wrote us an email saying if we did not give you a $1,000 refund for the toilet, shower feedback of it being "not very nice" and oven timer going off that you would leave a bad review. You said that we falsely advertised the condition of the cottage when all of the photos online are up to date. After hundreds of satisfied guests over many years of renting the house to visitors we found this to be quite an extreme response. To say that we did not offer to help or ignore you during and after the trip is disingenuous at best. For any potential future guest reading this review and response please rest assured we take maintenance very seriously and we are honored to be on island hosts who have made many Kauai dream vacations come true for our loyal guests who have stayed at any of our properties over the years.
