Wonderful House!

We've rented a half dozen houses on the chain and the Wolfe's house on Darling is one of our favorites yet! Don't be put off by the modest exterior. The inside of the house is absolutely adorable and the lakefront, beach, patio, fire pit and dock are perfect. The kitchen, though small, is charming, well laid out and had everything we could want. The living area and sunroom are cozy and comfy with lots of nice touches like blankets and pillows and a day bed for naps! The bedrooms are small, but easily sleep eight comfortably. Be forewarned, however, that all of the bedrooms are upstairs and the steps are somewhat steep and narrow. It was fine for 6 mobile adults, but would not be suitable for seniors or very young children with mobility issues. There is a double bed in the sunroom, however, if you have Grandma along! It is clear that the owners put a lot of love into this house. Kari left a nice welcome basket for us with a bottle of wine and fixings for s'mores by the fire pit. Definitely a lovely touch among many like the jars of cotton swabs and floss picks in the bathroom! We would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to anyone who wants a charming house with a gorgeous lakefront so long as they are not mobility impaired. 5 of 5 stars!

An absolute great place to stay at!

Due to some recent storms in the area, we were notified ahead of time of some minor damage around the house. The damage was not a big deal, whatsoever, but we appreciated the communication. The exterior of the house was not that of the neighbors' homes (it's just an older home), but the interior was incredible. It's beautiful. We've never felt more welcomed at any VRBO we've stayed at. Plus, it has everything imaginable. We definitely overpacked. The location was the best. It was close to a couple great restaurants, close to downtown Alexandria, and it had an awesome beach just outside the backdoor. We'd stay here again. We loved it!

Loved our stay!

My family (including 2 small children), my parents, and my brother and sister-in-law stayed here and absolutely loved our experience. We could not get enough of the view and the lake and loved spending our time swimming or hanging out in the backyard. We also loved all that the area had to offer. The house has some quirks, like all good old houses do, but we don't have much to complain about. The host has thought ahead about lots of our needs and we loved our experience.

Fun Family

Kari promptly responded to all emails both before and during our stay. Everything was cleaned up well prior to our arrival. We were delightfully surprised by the thoughtful welcome basket of food and items for the young children in our party. The one exception to everything being cleaned was the barbeque. The BBQ works great, but all of the tongs and utensils hanging on the side were dirty with bits of food on them - looked like they hadn't been cleaned in some time. You could tell the sandy beach area had recently been raked and cleaned up which was nice to see. The sandy lake bottom lasts for about ten feet into the water, then turns to seaweed. There is also quite a bit of seaweed that piles up on the shoreline after a day or two, so we used the rakes and tools in the shed to keep it clean during our stay. The cabin is a well-maintained quaint older cabin. The staircase to the upper level is rather steep and the depth of the stair tread is rather narrow (8 inches). This might be a concern for people with moderate mobility or for people carrying young children. The cabin backs up to a road with a fair amount of traffic. In the still of the night the traffic noise can be heard inside the house. Also the lot size is fairly small with neighboring cabins close by on either side. We didn't find this too bothersome, but be advised you won't get a feeling of privacy. We were able to rent a pontoon from Lake Carlos Marina and tie up at the dock on the property, so that was nice. And we did enjoy using the paddleboard and the various yard games stashed in the shed. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this cabin to others.
