Summary:
Located only 6 blocks from king street's exciting new restaurants and boutique shopping, this 1830's single style residence has been newly renovated with modern conveniences into a truly gorgeous Charleston vacation rental.

The Space:
This 1830's single style residence has high ceilings, gleaming heart pine floors, original mantled fireplaces help give our guests a true Charleston experience. This apartment is located on the second floor of the house. The bedrooms are set at either end of the apartment giving guest privacy for each other during their stay. The bathroom has just been fully renovated and features a tub with shower and tiled floors. The furnishings include a mix of antiques and modern furniture. Enjoy the afternoon breezes from the piazza. There is off street, secure parking.

Guest Access:
The apartment has a large piazza and off street parking. It is located only a block away from three popular restaurants, Xiao Bao Biscuit, Bistronomy By Nico and Fuel. Walk about 5 blocks and you will be on King Street with many of Charleston's favorite new restaurants and boutiques.

The Neighborhood:
The Elliotborough/Cannonborough district of downtown Charleston. With its friendly neighbors, cozy restaurants, and tree lined streets, our neighborhood will immerse you in Charleston’s classic charm. This house is perfect for a family or group seeking a fun, culinary and cultural vacation. Popular dining spots in the neighborhood include Xiao Bao Biscuit, Fuel, Porchetta Shop, Southbound, R Kitchen, Chubby Fish and many more! Our guests and neighbors also rave about Welton's Tiny Bakeshop and Kudu Coffee. We recommend going to either for a cup of locally-roasted coffee or their delicious cookies and cakes. The house is only a short walk from the very popular King Street where you will find a multitude of great shops – including antique shops, book stores and fashion boutiques – as well as endless buzzing restaurants and bars.

Getting Around:
You can walk almost everywhere - but should you want to rest your feet, there are many other options for getting around: Uber, Lyft, Charleston Bike Taxi, Charleston Rickshaw, Green Taxi or Yellow Cab.

Wonderful location!

This is a wonderful location with lots to do in the neighborhood. The house is just as pictured! The owners were very insightful and very helpful. I really enjoyed the on-property parking. We will definitely stay again!

Charming and great location

Located in a quiet section of Charleston near the Charleston medical school. Plenty of space for a family of four. Walking distance to shops and cafes and minutes to all of the various hot spots in Charleston. Close to North Charleston and Mt. Pleasant as well. We would stay here again.

Historic but shabby

For the price, this property was below expectations. The photos made it look much more elegant. I realize this is a historic property, however the exterior looks dilapidated compared to the photo. The porch was leaning to the point it seemed dangerous. The couch had stains all over it (I put a sheet on it before sitting) and the bed mattresses were saggy and uncomfortable. It’s a shame these once elegant homes are being treated like cash cows for rental companies. The house overlooks the next door property (also shabby) whose back yard has been turned into a parking lot by the property company. That said, the neighborhood was fine and the rental company was responsive.

Lovely place

We really enjoyed our stay here. It is in a historic home, so be prepared for slanty floors but lots of character. Most everything we needed was there. Beds were super comfy. The only con was that it could use some better lighting. The location is great - in the middle of a fun, funky neighborhood. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the porch on a nice afternoon. I would definitely stay here again.

Daughter’s Senior Trip

This place was just what we were wanting when we were thinking of charm. The two bedrooms were spacious and the kitchen was fully stocked- the owners even supplied the coffee and filters too! There were also plenty of dishwasher pods to cleanup after we cooked dinner (we chose not to eat out at every meal to save money), as well as laundry pods. It was a trip we’ll never forget.

Clean and convenient location

Our rental was very clean and conveniently located with easy access to all of the Charleston hot spots. Property management had amazing communication as we were coming into town at the tail end of a hurricane and we wanted to make sure we could navigate any flooding to get to the property; happy to report we had zero issues thanks to us checking on the nearby streets for us.

Quirky historic Charleston single house

This is a very typical Charleston single house. Slanted floors and all. If you want the experience of that rather than all the comforts of home this a great little place with convenient off street parking for smaller vehicles. Communication with property manager was a bit clumsy. I had to write to request check in instructions and then didn’t receive the message indicating what they’d like us to do before checking out until after we had already left.

Perfect for us

We booked this spot last minute based on location and budget. As mentioned in other posts, it’s dated but worked well for us since we mostly just slept there. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were very nice. Communication with management was top notch and they were extremely helpful. I prefer to have cable but watching Netflix was nice. I do wish there were instructions for the tv. Parking was nice to have as well. We would stay here again!!

Incredible location and house

Just blocks from King Street and plenty of restaurant options in the area. This was the perfect weekend get-away for our family. Everyone was very accommodating. Definitely plan to visit Charleston again and will stay at this house.

Downtown Charleston Stay

Waned to stay somewhere close to downtown action. This place was a historic house with rentals on two floor plus a stand alone cottage type place on tge grounds. Off road parking for 3 guests. It had everything we needed for a one night stay in town. Nothing fancy, but Comfortable beds and large soft bath towels. Two seperate bedrooms with sitting area in between with full kitchen and bathroom. Outdoor sitting area on porch. We stayed in the upper suite B. Easy check-in with lock box. Expensive cleaning fee of $150. I guess with Covid protecols, everything is well cleaned for each new guest? Washer & dryer if needed for those staying longer. Less than 2 miles from carriage tours.

Size

As expected in charleston the size of the property was not very large however for 4 people the 2 rooms are perfect but the living room and kitchen are not very big. The pictures oversold the look of the place a bit however it was still an awesome spot

Unit Not As Advertised

Before posting my criticisms, I want to say that this property overall was in a central location, was pet friendly, had convenient parking, and communication and check-in were wonderful. These are all positives that we truly appreciated. The property itself, however, was not what we expected based on the listing and the corresponding photos. To start, we expected an older home, tastefully renovated. Upon entering the property, we were met with a smell that I can only describe as a musty boot fished from the bottom of a river, but covered up with Pinesol. Not a pleasant welcome and the smell persisted throughout our stay. The renovation seems to have consisted of slapping beadboard on the walls and ceiling, covering up old blemishes - this is likely where the smell is coming from. The amenities in the unit are generally dated. The bathroom toilet sits so low that every use felt like a limbo competition. The shower temperature is fickle and requires the knob be positioned downward to avoid a cold water/ scalding shower. It took a lot of trial and error to figure this out. The second bedroom closet door was off its hinges, so we didn’t even bother using it. The slope of the room is very noticeable and felt like walking in a fun house. Overall we found the beds to be rather uncomfortable and didn’t sleep great as a result. All of this was not ideal, but the truly unacceptable moment was when I found a cockroach climbing the wall of the living room by the kitchen. This was an isolated incident, but one that caused us to question the cleanliness of the unit and the safety of the food we were storing. I want to be clear that this is not a hatred for old houses - I live in a house built in the 1920s. However, the photos and description led us to believe that this was a professional renovation. It is clearly not that. I also want to note that the aforementioned is meant to help future travelers make an informed decision and the property manager rectify some of these issues. We appreciate the hospitality and hope these issues will be addressed.

Historical Charm

If you’re looking for a historic feel while you’re staying in Charleston, this is a great find! With the house being built in the late 1800s, you feel like you’re stepping back in time all while having the necessary modern amenities. I chose this house because it was only a few blocks from the Medical University, but it’s not very far from the heart of Charleston, so with a short drive you can get where you want to go for the most part. There are also plenty of restaurant and coffee shop options within walking distance if you want to check out the neighborhood. The host was very responsive and was checking in during the stay, so you don’t have to worry about getting in contact with them if you need to. Overall a great stay. Thanks! :)

Basic

The location is good but it appears everything is close in Charleston. The interior photos of the home are fairly accurate but the exterior of the home shows a lot more wear and looks run down overall; from dust, spider webs to un manicured landscaping. On the interior it is basic but still charming . The towels were past there useful life and if you have 5 guests in a home ensure you have enough towels for all. In the kitchen there was no sponge. The stove top plates were dirty and should be replaced and spaghetti noodles should’ve been cleaned up. When our kids pulled the sheets back in the back bedroom to go to bed there were red stains on the sheets. We called and they replaced them the right away the next day. Then when we were leaving I was looking under the beds to see if anything was left behind and found condemn wrappers under the bed. So gross! All in all if the basic amenities were updated and the unit was clean it’d be a great place for a work trip. Not ideal for a family.

Property managers rock

This was a bit of a Comedy of Errors stay for us. Temps hit 115 degrees with humidity and our air conditioner failed. The property managers were amazing. Once they realized it could not be fixed, they swiftly moved us and kept us in air-conditioned housing until we left. They were communicative. They responded consistently and they were super helpful!
