Location, location,. Location is what we have in our lovely Mexican paradise. The town of Ajijic is at the center of a series of small villages on the north shore of Lake Chapala perched 5000 ft above sea level and our casa is in the heart of that village. Central yet quiet (by Mexican standards!) you can walk everywhere or grab the bus or a cheap taxi to a neighboring village or into Guadalajara, 40 minutes away, which is also where the airport and bus depots are. The weather is superb year round – the best climate in the world according to National Geographic. Ajijic is a lovely cobblestone village with many good international and local restaurants, shopping and cultural activities. Almost outside our front door is the tianguis (fresh market) on Wednesdays and down the street several blocks is the Lake Chapala Society which offers cultural and language classes and many other activities. Evening walks along the Malecon (waterside walkway) remind you of both the vibrancy and the peacefulness of the Mexican way of life.
Slightly further afield are the humming town and Malecon of Chapala and the Aguas Termales (hot springs) of San Juan Cosala. The Lake and gorgeous surrounding mountains offer hiking and biking opportunities. Guadalajara, a city of 8 million people, offers all the amenities and culture of a modern city. It’s an easy 3 ½ hour drive by car or bus over a good road to the beach at Manzanillo, 5 hours to Puerto Vallarta and 8 hours to Mexico City. All locations within Mexico are also accessible by plane from the nearby International Airport in Guadalajara.
