Built by Monroe "Monk" Hale in 1889, The Castle is a Keene historic landmark. This prominent 3-story Victorian Mansion has been meticulously restored in conjunction with the Historic Society.
Centrally located on the main street in Keene, the home is steps from the Ausable River, close to all the High Peak trails and the conveniences of Lake Placid. Meticulous craftsmanship is featured throughout the home with unique Adirondack-style parquet wood floors, walls, and ceilings. Elegant handcrafted plaster woodland murals grace the dining room walls and period staircases rise to the 3rd floor turret room which provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The unique details make this truly a one of a kind vacation stay!
The 2nd floor has two bedrooms and a shared bath. The master bedroom features a stately King bed made from local Adirondack natural hickory logs. The second bedroom features two Dartbrook black-iron twin beds. Both bedrooms have access to the 2nd floor covered porch that spans the north side of the home.
The 3rd floor bedroom features a hand-wrought iron Queen bed and a unique open-concept private bath with a two-person shower, clawfoot tub and back porch overlooking the Gulf Brook that flows through the back yard providing relaxing water sounds that encourage a peaceful night's sleep.
During the warm Summer months there are window ac units. One in each bedroom and one in the living room.
The back yard is fully yours to enjoy with Adirondack chairs (of course!) and a large stone fire pit shaded under mature trees and situated next to the babbling brook. Whether you are visiting the scenic High Peaks for fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, dining, shopping, or antiquing, you will thoroughly enjoy relaxing in luxury at this unique, historic Adirondack property!
