Right by the River
The place was clean, the shower was wonderful, the fenced back yard area was really nice. The kitchen had a wonderful selection of dishes and pots and baking dishes. The hot tub (although murky) was steps away from the door, and there are lots of towels for this. There is a loop around the block that goes by the river, and is a nice outing. The beds were comfortable and large, although the top bunk is more suited for kids. The TV was good, but there is no manual for the place to tell you where things are, how to work the heat/AC unit, TV, location of room thermostats, location of nearby restaurants, etc., and that would have been really helpful. I have read the reviews, and it seems like they were from single renters. In our case we had five people, so the accommodations were a little more crowded, but it was still comfortable. The heating system didn't work for us, however. It was a rainy, cold and blustery day, and it caused us to have a stressful first day and second morning trying to contact the Customer Service numbers. It was fixed by having my husband being coached over the phone around 11:00 a.m. the next day, arranged through Portland. Don't count on Welches/Rhodedendron Customer Support after hours. I have to say that this is not a place for anyone with physical disabilities, there are two levels to step up to get to the bathroom, and the stairway to the loft is steep with narrow steps.
Overall, the kids had a great time in the hot tub and yard area, and the adults loved the scenic river and cabin loops as well as the proximity to the lakes and attractions nearby.
