Hayward is home of the world famous Birkebeiner Nordic ski race, and home to the first log rolling championship in the country.

If you're looking to get more involved in the outdoors, you can find multiple single track mountain bike routes nearby and hikes in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Just an hour and a half north is the city of Duluth, the gateway to the North Shore filled with hiking and great lake adventures. And you're looking for a kayaking adventure, the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is just an hour north!
