What an incredible place!! It's about 10km from the road (30km from the nearest town), through the stunning scenery of the karoo. When you finally arrive, you can't quite believe your eyes. There are animals surrounding the property, incredible views, opportunities for stargazing, horse riding, game drives, and walks. The night we stayed, they prepared a braai for all the guests at a very reasonable price. Don't debate - just go! Well worth the money, just wish we could have stayed longer than one night
This was a last minute stay but one that we instantly loved. There is a very long and bumpy drive to the hotel but you forget about it as soon as you arrive. The room was simply stunning, absolute luxury. All the staff were great and the food was amazing. Such a romantic spot for any couple. Totally worth the journey!!
Awesome experience! Went on a great horseback ride and bush drive with Jason, and Natasha and George provided excellent food and service. We had an amazing 2 night honeymoon stay.
Perfect staff and welcoming animals make a perfect combination.
Not only is this lodge offering some beautiful viewing opportunities of wild animals, but it also offers the chance to see some of them up close and personal. My son was thrilled to be able to bottle feed the baby springbok and a meerkat. By the time we had to leave, the meerkats really had accepted us as part of their family and were even trying to get home with us, coming in our car !
The staff is also very welcoming and friendly, which adds to the perfect ambience of this lodge which is situated at a decent distance away from the city (not too far that you have to drive for hours before reaching the lodge, not too close so that you don't have cellphone reception to enjoy the place fully).
Look at the directions on their website and do not rely on the GPS or Google maps to find the lodge otherwise you will get lost. It is very easy to find and much shorter to reach them than claimed on the website depending on how often you stop on the side of the road once inside the lodge area to spot the various animals.
Make sure to get in at the end of the day as this is the best time to spot animals. Girafes, kudus, springboks, waterbuck, zebras were all seen on the way to the lodge.
Such a remote place to stay, right on a lake. It was sumptuous luxury. The staff and guides were wonderful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. One of the highlights of our holiday.
We very much enjoyed our 3 night stay at Madi Madi, the staff, service and catering was second to none. My only suggestion would be to go on line and follow the directions given by Madi Madi, as the 20km stated by hotels.com turned out to be about 50km from Oudtshoorn which is fine, if you are aware and happy to chill for a few days.
This is a new lodge with its major selling point being the isolated (but accessible) location and high quality of the accommodation. They are building up their stock of animals so there is not a lot to see compared to the big safari lodges but that would not be your main reason for coming here. It is just so relaxing and the staff are brilliant, as are the meals. Of the various places we stayed in SA this is the one to which we would most likely return.
