Located atop the hill of the ancient Certosa abbey of Florence, only 4 miles away from the ancient walls of downtown Florence, the Rustico della Certosa house is the ideal lodging for those who wish to visit the city during the day, and relax by night. Immersed in the green countryside of Florence, the Rustico della Certosa house is located by the Certosa highway exit, 5 minutes away, in a strategic position to visit the wonderful hills of Tuscany!

During the day, it is possible to visit the countless works of art of Florence, but also to organize short day-trips in the luxuriant Chianti countryside, with the Rustico being in the Chianti Putto region. You can enjoy Greve in Chianti, also known as the pearl of Chianti, only 30 minutes away, the beautiful San Gimignano about 35 minutes away, the famous town of Siena about 40 minutes away Sant'Andera in Percussina with the Niccolo' Machiavelli museum-house only 5 minutes away (all distances are calculated based on car transportation).

It's very easy to reach the historic city centre of Florence from our property: infact the nearest bus stop is 2Kms away for the property. In front of the bus stop there is a big FREE parking, where you can park the car and catch the bus for the historic city centre. The bus takes 10-15 minutes to reach the Duomo of Florence.

For the past few centuries, the Rustico della Certosa was a simple building, created to welcome peasants working on the surrounding hills. During the 2000's, the building was completely renovated, paying close attention not to remove or alter those unique elements that remind it's rustic past, that is, the big fireplace in the middle of the dining room, the ancient exposed wood beams, and the original cotto floors from Impruneta.

The 5 bedrooms are tastefully furnished, inspired by the major historic events of the surrounding areas. There are a fully equipped kitchen, a big dining room and a big living room. In the dining room there is also a cupboard furnished by all necessary to testing the Italian wine (Professional testing glasses, decanter, information about the most famous Tuscany wine cellars).

The garden, in the spring and summer months, is a true oasis, where you can relax, maybe read a book and enjoy a cocktail. If the sun is hitting really hard, you can seek refuge under the big umbrella and nap on the lawn chairs available for you.

The place was rustic and relaxing. Far away from thr city center so you will need transportation. The driving service was very expensive but worth it for the trip.

This property is so nice, that it was my 4th time there. Very roomy, rustic feel. I highly suggest hiring Marco as your driver. He is a great driver and very accommodating. Mina’s dinner is a must! Do not miss this meal!

A Restful Retreat

The house was comfortable, clean, spacious and well appointed. The location close to Florence is ideal for those wishing to spend a large amount of time in Florence. It is a large 5 bedroom 3 bath apartment/house above other living quarters and part of a larger complex of dwellings. The only drawback is it is up a mountain on a winding narrow road. We had a large vehicle because we were a family of 7. If we had had a smaller vehicle perhaps it would not have been so hazardous. The views are beautiful and the house is completely air conditioned. The kitchen is well furnished. There is a dishwasher and a clothes washer but no clothes dryer. A large living area and large dining room are perfect for a large family or couples travelling together. All the rooms are large. There are two large bathrooms and one smaller one. The house is not far from the nearest village, however because of the tricky path down the mountain, it took time to go to the grocery store or to the restaurant. Although we didn't use the bus to Florence, there is a bus stop at the bottom of the mountain. The family who owns the house lives on the property. They were very helpful and responsive to our needs both before the trip and during our stay. There are very nice restaurants nearby and the major highway is close by also. Pisa is an hour away and Sienna two hours away. Very easy to get to. It is a trade-off: the quiet peaceful beautiful views for the tricky narrow path down the mountain. All in all, we had a nice restful stay.

Trip of a lifetime!

First of all there were 12 of us the first week including 4 children. The property manager was very accommodating as we arrived early before check in. He allowed us to store our luggage then recommended a Restaurant for lunch. It was excellent and we ate there 4 times during our stay. The house handled us beautifully. The location is out of the city of Florence but very close. We did use the Driver and van that is available for our 2 week stay. This service was great. Marco took us everywhere we wanted to go and than some. Driving in Italy is an adventure to say the least, a car is necessary if you plan to do your own exploring. Roads are tight, and curving. Our stay was truly an incredible experience. Trip of a lifetime!

Perfect Florence Location

Located just outside of Florence, we had the joy of being in the countryside along with being close enough to take the city bus to the city centre and the attractions (Uffizi Gallery, Academia David, etc.). Also a good location for visiting the Tuscan towns like Sienna, Pisa, etc. It is a short drive to the supermarket where we were able to stock up on food and wine and enjoy dinner in after a tiring day out. Kitchen very well equipped and we used the outdoor brick BBQ many times as well. Rooms, bathrooms etc. all clean, modern and good-sized. We would stay there again.

Nous avons été surpris en arrivant de trouver un appartement en étage et non pas une maison comme les photos de l'annonce le laissaient supposer avec une petite terrasse au rez de chaussée. Nous n'avons pas été génés car nous venions pour visiter et il a plu chaque jour. Mais nous aurions eu des enfants en bas âge ou une personne à mobilité réduite c'eut été très embêtant. En quelque sorte, c'est mensonger par omission, car nous n'aurions pas loué ici si nous avions eu cette information. Cela dit le propriétaire est charmant et l'appartement très propre et bien équipé, la literie très confortable. Il fait le maximum pour nous être agréable et nous avons bien apprécié l'huile d'olive de bienvenue et le nécessaire pour le quotidien (produit vaisselle, de toilette, sel, sucre...) L'appartement est bien situé, à 5 minutes en voiture de l'arrêt du bus, de l'entrée de l'autoroute et du supermarché. Nous avons bien aimé le côté rustique et chaleureux de l'intérieur. Un petit bémol pour la salle de bains des deux chambres qui nécessiterait une ventilation pour évacuer les odeurs et l'humidité. Nous avons fait part de nos remarques au propriétaire, c'est pour cette raison que nous nous permettons d'écrire ce commentaire.

great Tuscan Experience

There were 5 of us from the USA looking for a Traditional Tuscan experience in Tuscany. Our expectations were far exceeded. Our Villa was located just outside of Florence and located near Siena and San Giamano. Our hosts, Enrico could not have been more supportive and pleasant. We hired Marco as our driver and he was super. Always on time and took us everywhere we needed to go. We experienced grocery shopping in Italy and loaded up for breakfast every morning and even grilled out one evening. We ordered Mama’s dinner one evening and the food was exceptional. Overall great experience and something we hope to do again soon. Highly recommended!

Apartment in a private villa

The property is close to Florence center, but by car a good 30 Minutes away on a very narrow, winding road. We hired Marco as driver, and could not have enjoyed the property without him taking us to Florence and other areas of Tuscany. The apartment is spacious, with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The villa has plenty of towels, sheets, etc. There is a washing machine for laundry. It is fully air conditioned, a necessity in summer! The apartment is part of the family’s villa. We were welcomed with a basket of vegetables an did do most of our cooking and took dinner meals at the villa. The road is so narrow we did not venture out of the villa at any time except when driven by Marco. Having a driver nearly doubled the cost, but it was a necessity. We were there in summer and found sitting outside attracted mosquitoes. Bug repellent was forgotten, so bring that. The yard is spacious and would be nice for children to play. The owner is very available for concerns, questions. It is a quiet retreat.It was incredibly hot while we were in Italy in August!

La casa está situada a pocos kilómetros de Florencia, cerca de comercios y restaurantes, en una zona tranquila rodeada de viñedos y cultivos. Vivienda con mucho encanto, de antigua construcción y habitaciones amplias. El propietario nos recibió correctamente, ofreciéndose para darnos todo tipo de información tanto de la casa como de la zona, nos obsequió con hortalizas de su huerto que estaban buenísimas, siempre atento y muy amable. La casa está en un conjunto de viviendas, por lo que el jardín y barbacoas se encuentra en zonas comunes. La recomiendo.

Fijne uitvalsbasis voor Firenze

Het huis met vijf ruime kamers en drie badkamers is perfect geschikt als uitvalsbasis om Firenze en omgeving te verkennen. De bedden zijn goed, de airco helpt bij meer dan 30 graden, de keuken is ruim en goed uitgerust voor wie graag kookt, alles is netjes en warm aangekleed. Het is een prettig huis om te verblijven. Goed om weten is wel dat het huis zich op de eerste verdieping bevindt. Buiten eten betekent dus wel wat trappenlopen. Firenze is met een comfortabele bus met airconditioning vanaf het marktplein (toch even de auto nodig) superdichtbij: je bent op 15 à 20 minuten op de piazza della repubblica. Bussen gaan van zeer vroeg tot behoorlijk laat. Geen parkeerzoektocht en geen grote wandeling vooraleer je in de stad bent. Wij vonden dat heerlijk. De - nochtans grote - tuin is in verhouding minder uitnodigend voor wie er een tijdje wil verblijven en ook graag een dagje rust neemt bij het vakantiehuis: de buitentafel klein, de stoelen niet gemaakt om lang op te zitten, de gemeenschappelijke tuin met wat speeltuigen weinig uitnodigend en weinig ruimte voor privacy buiten.

Spent a week in Impruneta w/ the Berni family. Long drive. on a narrow road w/ aggressive local drivers. Follow signs for Villa Castiglione (mostly stay right) Continue past church. Berni estate is the second past the church grounds. Walk to Impruneta is ~1.5 km. rooms are large. Kitchen well appointed. Wine on premises — just keep,track of what you drink. Internet and satellite tv. Any problems we had were immediately addressed by Alessandro or Enrico. On two occasions, a basket with fresh lettuce, cucumbers and zucchini was left at our door —courtesy of the Berni family. Do not drive into Florence!!! Take the 37 or 11 bus into town. Runs every ~20min. You can catch the 37 in Impruneta in front of the parking structure ( go right at the end of Via Colleramole — by the wine shop). Buy bus tickets across the street or at any Tabac store for €1.20 one way (on bus they cost €2 one way). For the #11 bus, you have to go into town and catch it at the market square. (Faster than 37, but same price. If you’re looking to take the bus to Sienna, Pisa,etc. You can purchase tickets at the tobacco shop as well and take the bus to the Florence Central bus station or in Impruneta.

Beautiful location just outside Florence

Large, clean but rustic residence in Tuscany. You will want a car if you stay here (we rented one in Florence - 15-20 minute drive to the home) or use the owner’s offer of car service at an additional but reasonable cost. Just a wonderful home.

Beautiful location

We had a group of 6 adults and 4 school-aged kids. This was a wonderful home base-plenty of room, Mina's meals were great, and Marco took us to the airport at 4 AM. Every morning we started off with a beautiful 2km walk to the bus and had coffee and croissants at the Tabacco shop. Florence and the train were easy to get to. We were perfectly happy without a rental car. I enthusiastically recommend this location.

Great home outside Florence for a family

We loved our stay at Villa Rustico. After a long day of travel we were met with fresh eggs from the farm and other staples we pre-ordered as well as our first of two meals prepared by Mama Minna. The house was spacious for our family of 5, and well equipped. Travel to Pisa, San G, Perugia and Greve were all very easy, and the house feels like the country although you are only minutes from Florence or the airport. Rico was very attentive but we always had our privacy even though the family lives on the same grounds. We would definitely stay again.

Beautiful retreat close to everything you wish to explore in Tuscany

We had a wonderful stay here and cannot wait to come back. The house was clean and charming and easily kept warm (we visited during feb) we brought our six small children who LOVED playing in the yard while we prepared meals ect. The kitchen was well equipped and there are several markets close by including a supermarket which made staying as a large family a breeze. We found a few great restaurants just off the main road the house is located on. The property is a serene escape in the hills surrounded by olive trees and a beautiful drive leading up to it that will take your breath away. It’s only short drive into the heart of Florence and less than hour to pretty much any other town you would wish to explore in tuscany. The location could not be better. Our hosts were very gracious and attentive (greeting us with fresh eggs from their farm, milk and other goodies) and we had mama Minna cook for us one evening... so special! Thank you Berni family for a wonderful holiday. We can’t wait to come back again.

Wonderful, quiet, roomy, inviting place to stay!

On our way to my son's wedding, my family stayed here for a week. My husband and I, along with our six grown kids (ages 21 - 30) enjoyed the property - it was roomy enough for all, was in a nice, quiet location with lovely neighbors (our luggage was lost and the airline delivered it to the neighbors who watched it for us until we returned home) and a beautiful, truly Italian property. Good kitchen facilities (we like to cook), plenty of bathrooms, just a great place to spend with family. Couldn't be happier with our gracious host and his brother, who provided everything we could want at our request. They stayed up late to greet us, and left us alone when we wanted our privacy. We rented a giant van to help us all get to and from Florence and surrounding areas. Parking was no problem at this property. We all loved it here and would return to this property in a minute!!

Great Property!

This is a nice property. Being two families with young kids the house was comfortable, clean and very well located. You can almost visit any major site within 90 mins and Florence is 20 mins. We really enjoy our stay. Ceci est une belle propriété. Nous étions deux familles avec des jeunes enfants et la maison était comfortable, propre et très bien situé. Il est possible de visiter presque n'importe quel site touristique important avec 90 mins de route et Florence est à 20 mins. Nous avons vraiment aimer notre séjour.

Florence Adventure

Great property, beautiful views, ample size, clean space for 9 of us, a true taste of Italy! Gracious family hosts, were responsive to our needs. Definitely need a car/van, a bit of a challenge navigating directions but in a fun way, maybe 20 minutes travel to the city walls outside of which we parked and walked. All added to our experience. The pictures and description of the property were representative of the experience. We were not able to be treated to Mina's cooking, maybe next time! We recommend to larger groups looking for a villa still close to the city instead of downtown hotels.

Great property outside of Florence

This property was great for our group. We hired Marco as our driver. He was great, and very accommodating. This is the only way to go. I highly recommend hiring Marco. MINA cooked a delicious meal for us, as well. It was delicious. We ordered it ahead of time, and had it on our arrival evening. Well worth it. It was nice to tour all day, and go back to the peaceful countryside in the evening. Ricco, Marco, and MINA were wonderful. Hopefully will meet Alessandro next time.

Excellent Villa ... Beautiful Vacation Spot

We were a group of 10 adults ....this Villa was the perfect place for us .As we were completely unfamiliar with this area Enrico helped us everyday. Enrico's charming personality enabled us to learn more of the Italian culture ,language , and countryside .We enjoyed a delicious meal made by Mama Mina .The Villa is Immaculately clean ,very spacious and beautiful !Enrico , Alessandro , Arianna and Mamma Mina made our Italian Holiday the best vacation ever !! 5 STARS TO THE BERNIE FAMILY !!! Thank You !! I highly recommend this beautiful Villa and Family to anyone visiting Tuscany !

My name is Alessandro - live in Florence. I manage my properties (I own 4 total) with my wife Arianna and my brother Enrico to the best of our abilities. We are extremely helpful in preparations for your stay, as well as while you will on site. We provide all the information on places to eat and to shop and to visit our special city. We work to assure that our house will be your home away from home and visit Florence as only a Florentine person can do!

The location is great! Infact the house is near the five Tuscany Unesco heritage sites:
1.Historic centre of Florence (10-15 minutes away from the property by car).
2.Historic centre of Siena (45 minutes away from the property by car);
3.Piazza del Duomo of Pisa (50 minutes away from the property by car);
4.Historic centre of Lucca (60 minutes away from the property by car);
5.Towers of Sangiminiano (30 minutes away from the property by car).

The House is wonderfull and very spacious....the ancient exposed wood beams, and the original cotto floors from Impruneta: you'll taste the unique Tuscany style!

Taking the dog for a morning walk around our wonderfull tuscany hill through fields of olive trees and vineyards. From our property you can walk and see the wonderfull sightsee of the historic city centre of Florence!
