This is the second time we have holidayed at Villa Arden. We came back because of the excellent facilities (comfy beds, ample storage, equipped kitchen, powerful shower) and location. We love the villa, especially the balcony where we take in the view towards the sea, the incredible sunsets and watch the planes landing at Chania in the distance. The sunbeds are comfy and the pool (in the sun all day) a good size for family games or merely bobbing away on a lilo. The large garden offers complete privacy and is stocked with the most gorgeous flowers and aromatic herbs. This really is a slice of paradise. The local village, Vamos, has a lovely Sunday morning market, along with restaurants and a fantastic bakery. Further afield Chania and Rethymno are not to be missed for their shops, cobbled streets, restaurants, bars and history. We also found monastries, churches, fortresses, castles and a lake where we could swim with turtles - all less than one hour away. The local beach, Kalyves, was 20 minutes by car; busy enough to feel safe and have facilities but quiet enough to be relaxing. No loud hotels, high rise buildings or stag parties here. We parked next to it for free and the sun beds were free so long as you purchased a drink from the bar behind them. The drinks and bar food were delicious and reasonably priced. We would recommend the boat hire from here. So much cheaper than from Chania or Rethymo.
