In New Smyrna Beach, you can enjoy beach combing, swimming, building sandcastles, fishing, and all sorts of water sports. New Smyrna is known as the surfing capital of Florida. Even if you don't want to try yourself, you'll enjoy watching the locals hang ten. New Smyrna Beach is a laid back town; plenty of casual dining with great seafood restaurants.
Canaveral National Seashore is a short drive down the road. Here you can put in your boat for world renowned flats fishing- you'll find snook, trout and reds in Mosquito Lagoon. The Atlantic Ocean invites kayaking, surfing, sailing, sunbathing, snorkeling, and any other ocean activity.
If shopping is your way to relax, visit Flagler Avenue. Old Flagler Avenue has returned to life with shops, ice cream treats, surf shops and restaurants. You can also take your car to the North end of the beach and cruise on the driving beach. Highway A1A is still a 2 lane road which dead ends into the Canaveral National Seashore. You can bike on the flat beach or bike in Canaveral National Seashore as well. New Smyrna is full of history, too. There are ancient Indian Mounds there to see. 40 Minutes to the west is famous Blue Springs where you can swim with the Manatees or just watch them from the edge of the natural fresh water spring.
People return to this area year after year because of the location, affordability, and wonderful family atmosphere. There is plenty of affordable golf nearby. Disney, Epcot, MGM, Animal Kingdom are only a 1 1/2 hour drive; Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Sea World are only 1 hour 15 minutes away. You can drive to Daytona in 20 minutes. Famous Kennedy Space Center is nearby too, just a 45 min drive.
